Rise of Cities (3500BC-0)

• Domesticated villages came into existence and
  need for storage and transportation increased.
• Technological advance that played a crucial role
  in the development of packaging was the invention
  of blown glass.

Fall of Roman Empire

• Innovation in Packaging came to hold when Rome
  fell.
• New technologies came from non-European countries
  and China made huge contribution by inventing
  Paper Packaging.

Industrial Revolution

• In 18th century was the period of transition to
  new manufacturing process.
• Products began to be made by machines rather than
  hands, so to keep up the production packaging
  methods became durable efficient.
• As people migrated to urban areas, demand for
  smaller individual packaging increased.

Modern Packaging Material

• Use of Plastic for packaging material started in
  1900s and polythene became the most preferred
  packaging material.
• Packaging industry has continued to advance ever
  since and plastic packaging material is
  considered to be the most efficient and will
  dominate flexible packaging sector for coming
  years.
