  • When you think of a handyman, what kind of
repairs come to mind? The most common repairs for
the summer time in Redmond, OR are fence repair,
roof repair, floor repair and drywall repair.
This articles will explore these four common
repair jobs and see if they can help you tackle
them yourself to save you money by not calling a
    handyman.
  • Fence repair is the easiest fix by yourself in
Central Oregon. The typical style of fencing
around Central Oregon is solid board fencing that
    is 5/8 in. x 5-1/2 in. x 6 ft in diameter.
Western Red Cedar Dog-Ear Fence Picket is the
most common. They cost around 2.50 a piece and
replacing them with a drill and screws doesnt
need any explanation. If the fence is beyond
single board repair and needs concrete poured,
then you definitely need a handyman.

  • Roof repair in Redmond, OR can be tricky. Its
all about finding the leaking source. It starts
with ripping off the shingles and pouring water
all around the roof to find the leak. After you
find the leak, which is tough to locate. It
starts with stains. The easiest way to find
stains are start with vent boots. Compromises in
roofs usually happen around open sources. If you
can find it this way, you can easily tear off the
shingles and replace them with a new set around
the area, but make sure you follow the same
    pattern as the rest.
  • Floor repair is easier than you think. There are
four types of flooring in Bend, OR. Carpet, tile,
laminate and hardwood. Carpet fixes are easy and
fun. If you have a stain that you want to get rid
of and cannot with chemicals, you can use the
cleaner carpet in the closet. Find a bowl that is
a little larger than the stain. Place it on the
carpet in the closet. Take a razor blade and cut
around the bowl. Do the same with the stain and
replace the closet one with the stained one.
Laminate fixes are not as easy. You can use
common glues to repair them, but if they are out
of control, you will have to remove as much as
you can and replace. Most flooring companies
laminate new material over the old. Hardwood
floor repairs require spare parts. Most hire a
    handyman to do this.

  • Drywall repair is tricky if you have orange peel
patterns. Small holes are easy. Purchase drywall
paste and use a flat knife to glide the paste
over the hole. If you have orange peel pattern,
you can purchase a can of orange peel spray.
Spray a little over the affected area. Let dry
then sand it down (gently). After that, paint and
you are good to go. Make sure you have the same
color of paint as the wall. If the hole is bigger
and the paste cannot hold around the hole, you
need something to fill in the void. Purchase a
piece of drywall and find a bowl that can fit
    around the damaged area.
  • Draw a circle and cut out the remainder of the
circle. Be careful. Use the same bowl and cut out
the round piece on the new drywall part you
bought. Now, you should have a perfect circle
that fits into the circle you made on the wall.
Spin the drywall piece around until it looks good
enough to push in. Use a hammer and lightly tap
the drywall piece into place. If needed, sand the
edges. You dont want the replacement piece
larger than the hole. Just be careful. Once you
have it in place, use the paste for the cut
edges. Let dry, sand and paint. If the piece
falls inward and you need to to come back towards
you to fit, drill a small hole in the center of
the drywall circle. Take a paperclip and
straighten it out. Now make an L shape with it.
Place the paperclip inside the small hole and
turn it so the clip grabs the backside. Now, spin
it and pull towards you until the desired effect.
