  • Packaged drinking water today has become your way
to a healthy life. The tap water may or may not
be safe for your health. This risk factor has
diverted majority of the population towards the
consumption of packaged drinking water. This in
turn has made the business of packaged drinking
water plant an evergreen business. You can set up
a packaged drinking water plant in low costs and
expect good returns over it. However, there are
certain rules one should follow when you open up
    a packaged water drinking plant.

3
  • One of the most important thing is to own the
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India
(FSSAI) license. The FSSAI being the highest
regulatory body in India had recently announced
to crack whip on all those packaged drinking
water plants without the license. It was
announced that no person should manufacture or
sell packaged drinking water without the Bureau
of Indian Standards (BIS) certification and the
    FSSAI license.

4
  • Key media houses reported that out of total 5,842
registered packaging units only 1,495 had both
BIS and FSSAI licenses. Records also showed that
4,347 units had only BIS certification and
therefore FSSAI decided to take the matter into
its hands and get the actual picture.

5
  • Pepsico, Coco Cola and Bislery, who hold the
60 market share when it comes to packaged
drinking water, were recently given clean chit by
the FSSAI. The FSSAI CEO, Pawan Agarwal was
    quoted saying "FSSAI regulations require
mandatory BIS certification on packaged water.
However there is a need for such businesses to
obtain FSSAI certification. For which we have
already written to the state food commissioners".

6
  • An official statement released by FSSAI revealed
a shocking data which indicated that almost 75
of the firms involved in the packed water
business are operating without proper license.
Such units or companies were only operating on
the basis of a BIS certification. The FSSAI has
asked authorities to crack down on all companies
without proper license. So if you own a package
drinking water plant make sure you have both the
BIS certification and the FSSAI license.
