India recorded a new milestone in its history of
space market. A record 20 satellites were
launched in merely 26 minutes by our space
agency, ISRO, says Vaikundarajan. This move also
means a lucrative commercial space market for
India.

The events took place in the southern spaceport
of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The rocket
launched into the space carried satellites mainly
for international customers such as the US,
Germany and a Google-owned company.

The record for launching the most satellites is
held by Russia. They launched 37 satellites back
in 2014, informs Vaikundarajan.

The satellites will now enter the orbit to
observe and measure the Earths atmosphere as
well as provide service for amateur radio
operators.

ISRO chairman A.S. Kiran Kumar stated, Each of
these small objects that you are putting into
space will carry out their own activity, which is
independent of the other, and each of them will
live a wonderful life for a finite period."

The business of launching commercials satellites
into space is growing. India is known for
low-cost space programme and is competing against
top international players to gain a larger share
of launch market, explains Vaikundarajan. Only
last month, India launched its first mini space
shuttle and entered the global race to develop
reusable rockets.

In 2013, India successfully sent an unmanned
rocket to orbit Mars at a cost of 73 million as
compared to NASAs 671 million cost on its Maven
Mars mission.
