Google, officially kicked off Google I/O 2016,
the companys annual developer conference, at
which the tech giant has unveiled a number of
major announcements and new products. If you have
missed on what was announced at Googles annual
event, heres a quick recap.

Google Assistant
Combining the power of search and machine
learning, Google has announced a powerful search
assistant that will not only provide relevant
search results, but will offer better answers to
follow up questions. Now, Google Assistant is the
natural extension of search, supporting
conversational understanding to make search
more natural and to better support voice searches.

Google Home
Google has introduced Google Home, a small device
that works like the Amazon Echo but it is powered
by the Google Assistant. Just by speaking, you
can order an Uber, play Spotify, set alarms or
just ask questions. Google Home has Assistant
built in, and Google claims its voice-recognition
technology is the best in class. It will be
released later this year.

Allo - Messaging App
Googles new messaging app, Allo that aims to
make conversations easier, more expressive and
help users get things done. It does this through
deeply integrated machine learning through Google
Assistant.
Allo is based on phone numbers, so users can get
in touch with anyone in their phonebook.

Duo - Standalone Video Chat
Google also announced Duo, a companion app for
one-to-one video calling that lets users reach
out to anyone in their phonebook. Duo includes a
feature titled Knock Knock, which shows users a
live video preview of the caller before they pick
up the call. Once users answer the call, the app
will seamlessly transition users right into the
call.

Android N
Googles next version of Googles mobile OS is
Android N, and its going to be a huge update
when its released later this year. Android N
will also automatically close apps that haven't
been updated in a while, and offer you a "close
all" option on the page screen. Plus, new emoji.
Android N still doesn't have a name, but is being
opened to suggestions from The Internet.

Daydream
Virtual reality is a huge component of Android N,
and the new VR platform is called Google
Daydream. A new feature called Daydream will
allow certain phones to up their performance to
deliver VR, and Google is releasing a Play Store,
Street View and YouTube for VR.

Google VR headset
Google has announced what it calls a reference
design of its VR device. It definitely looks more
polished than the Cardboard. Though they didnt
show any actual pictures of anything, Google is
finalizing a reference model of a VR headset and
VR controller, with intent to have multiple
manufacturers building them by this fall.

Android Wear 2.0
A big update to Android Wear is coming Version
2.0, which includes several new features. The
biggest of these is apps that run within a
wearable, rather than relying on a connected
smartphone, potentially making a smartwatch a lot
more powerful.

Android Instant Apps
The new Android Instant apps lets you access apps
from anywhere without installing. It will let you
run Android apps as seamlessly as loading a
webpage. And, it is compatible all the way back
to Jelly Bean.

Firebase 2.0
Firebase 2.0 is packed with new features for
building and testing Android apps, and its now
available for developers. Going beyond a mobile
backend, the platform helps developers quickly
build high-quality apps, grow their user base,
and earn more money across iOS, Android and the
mobile web.

Android Apps Coming to Chrome OS
Google had some major announcements for Chrome OS
at I/O 2016, including Android app support on the
platform. At long last, Android apps will be
making their way to Chromebooks starting in June.
Thats no limitation on which apps or whether the
developers have optimized it thats all apps.

Android Auto
The latest version of Android Auto features
improved voice controls, has Waze built right in
and can even be used when a car doesnt support
Android Auto out of the box. Google announced
that Android Auto will soon be able to run on
your phone as if it were any other type of app.

Android Studio 2.2
Google launched Android Studio 2.2 preview, the
latest version of its integrated development
environment. Android Studio 2.2 is to help
developers run their apps faster (10x) with the
ability to deploy changes, even in a running app.
