  Linux is that there are few commercial
  applications available to compete with what is
  available in their current operating system. Pick
  two application categories (such as Email, Word
  Processing, Spreadsheet, Money Management,
  Graphics, Music, Project Management) and locate
  an open source alternative for each. Give an

  supercomputers. Supercomputers are used mainly to
  simulate and perform large mathematical
  calculations. My favorite is the Earth Simulator
  in Japan - I love the idea of simulating Earth's
  conditions. It used to be in the top 5, and has
  now fallen to 68th in power and capability.
