Agriculture Minister of Haryana
  • Paramvir Singh, Agriculture Minister of Haryana,
    received the Commendation Award for Sustained
    High Production in Wheat and Rice for the year
    2012-13. President Pranab Mukherjee handed the
    award at New Delhi. It was during the inaugural
    ceremony of the World Congress on Agro Forestry.

  • The minister revealed that Haryana received the
    award for achieving steadily high output in rice
    and wheat and for being the second hugest
    contributor to the Central Pool when it comes to
    food grains. The minister added that Haryana is
    in the first position in export of Basmati Rice
    and the state has promoted also resource
    conservation technology in system of wheat and
    rice.

States cultivating Basmati Rice
  • Haryana is among the major states cultivating
    Basmati Rice. Haryana and Punjab cultivate more
    than 70 percent of Indian Basmati and with the
    support of national government the returns were
    high for the region. The support of the national
    government aimed to protect farmers from abrupt
    variations of prices.

The minister committed
  • The minister commented about it by saying that
    the Geographical Indication recognition for the
    basmati rice cultivated in states of North India
    such as Haryana is expected to boost exports by
    stabilizing the price of the rice.
