Part 1 10 Best Halloween Horror Movies
The Exorcist
Poltergeist
The Exorcist is a classic horror movie, and for a
good reason. This story of an innocent little
girl possessed by an evil demon has been
captivating audiences since the movies release
in 1973. You wont forget the image of the
childs possessed face, or her unnatural body
positions, including the famous revolving head
scene. The claustrophobic nature of the setting
an ordinary family home adds to the creepiness
of the situation. It also helps that the acting
is superb. "The Exorcist" is based on the
terrifying novel by William Peter Blatty that has
spawned a total of five movies. However, none can
compare to the original which was nominated for
10 Academy Awards.
Another classic creepy horror movie is
Poltergeist, which was released in 1982. The
Freeling family live in an idyllic community in
California named Cuest Verde. Their peaceful
lives are disturbed when strange occurrences
begin taking place in their home. The Poltergeist
franchise is said to be cursed due to the amount
of real life deaths that occurred during the
making of the films. You might not think that a
movie where the evil is completely faceless could
be so terrifying, but in reality that only adds
to the scare factor. You are sure to share in the
familys fear as ordinary household objects start
to turn against them. Just make sure you have
company when you watch this movie. Watch it
alone, and even the normal environment of your
home could start to creep you out.

Troll Hunter
The Cabin in the Woods
This film includes samplings of just about every
sort of horror filmmaking you can image. If the
previous entry added some bloody good gore to
this list, then get out  your mop for this one,
because once the monsters get started, they never
let up. Its as hilarious as it is gory, as gory
as it is fun, and somehow it manages to be one
big homage and yet also entirely original all at
the same time. The film more than doubled its 30
million budget with 66 million in theatrical
revenue, but the studios portion barely covered
those expenses and the marketing adds tens of
millions more in the red column.
"Troll!!" Satirical without being a comedy,
filled with terrific visual effects despite a low
budget, and just flat-out wildly entertaining.
Its a big-monster movie with enough creepiness
and carnage to qualify as horror for this list,
but its also got terrific mythology and fantasy
elements as well, and the fake documentary angle
that is otherwise so overused in the genre never
wears out its welcome here. The 5 million it
managed from global receipts is not much above
its 3.5 million budget, but it built a minor
cult following on home release, and now a U.S.
remake is planned.

The Thing (1982)
V/H/S
An American scientific expedition to the frozen
wastes of the Antarctic is interrupted by a group
of seemingly mad Norwegians pursuing and shooting
a dog. The helicopter pursuing the dog explodes,
eventually leaving no explanation for the chase.
During the night, the dog mutates and attacks
other dogs in the cage and members of the team
that investigate. The team soon realizes that an
alien life-form with the ability to take over
other bodies is on the loose and they dont know
who may already have been taken over.
V/H/S is a first person view, found-footage
horror anthology, with each vignette directed by
different talent. The wraparound plot centers
around a group of thugs hired to steal a rare VHS
tape located inside a seemingly abandoned, creepy
house. As they stumble around the house they play
different tapes, revealing twisted, gruesome and
terrifying tales. But will we ever know who
recorded them?
6
The Evil Dead
The Babadook
Five friends go to a cabin in the woods for a
vacation. They discover a volume called "The Book
of the Dead" and a tape recorder belonging to a
professor, who also owns the cabin. One of them
plays back what is recorded on the tape which
just happens to be Candarian resurrection
passages translated from the Necronomicon (Book
of the Dead) by the professor, which unleashes an
evil force from the woods. The people start
turning into evil deadites, and the others soon
learn from the tape that the only way to kill a
person who is turned into a deadite is by total
body dismemberment. People are dying left and
right one girl early in the film looses control
and runs off into the woods, only to be raped by
the trees.
With serious capacity to disturb viewers, it
relies not just on monstrous terror but also
psychological terror of the most frightening
sort. Some of the most unnerving and chilling
moments are not of the creepy creature, but of
the little boy as he seems to lose his mind or
lashes out until his mother is losing hers.
Amazingly effective with very few literal
traditional scares, it relies on tension and
unsettling real-life moments to make the darker
parts all the more horrific. Budgeted at a low 2
million, the film pulled nearly 7 million in
theaters and garnered widespread acclaim as one
of the greatest modern horror releases.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
The Conjuring
Serial killer Freddy Krueger stalks this
Midwestern neighborhood, bringing terror and even
death to teenagers while they thought they were
safe in their beds.Featuring a young Johnny
Depp, this movie spread fear across America when
it was released in 1984. The movie was recreated
in 2010, but in many ways the original is
creepier. The sight of Kruegers deformed face
will have you shuddering and disbelieving that
such horror can be created using just makeup. The
movie has become a horror classic and continues
to terrify audiences regardless of its age.
In 1971, Carolyn and Roger Perron move their
family into a dilapidated Rhode Island farm house
and soon strange things start happening around it
with escalating nightmarish terror. In
desperation, Carolyn contacts the noted
paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren,
to examine the house. What the Warrens discover
is a whole area steeped in a satanic haunting
that is now targeting the Perron family wherever
they go. To stop this evil, the Warrens will have
to call upon all their skills and spiritual
strength to defeat this spectral menace at its
source that threatens to destroy everyone
involved.
