I read the dictionary. I figure it has all the
other books in it.

3
What Is JAKE?
  • A software application that facilitates shorthand
typing (otherwise known as a text expander).
  • Libraries (collections) of abbreviations and
    corresponding replacement values (words and
    phrases).

www.typejake.com
4
System Requirements
  • Works with Microsoft Windows XP and above
  • 4GB of Memory
  • .NET 4.0

5
System Requirements
  • Q Does JAKE only work with Microsoft
applications such as Excel, Word, etc.?
  • A JAKE Jr. (limited version) ONLY works in
    Microsoft Office Applications
  • JAKE (Version 1) works wherever data can be
typed. This includes browsers (Chrome, Mozilla,
etc.) and applications running on Microsoft
    Windows

6
System Requirements
  • Q Will JAKE run on mobile platforms?
  • A No. Not in this version. The upcoming
version(s) will be ported to the iOS and Android
    operating systems.

Coming Fall 2016
7
Why JAKE?
  • Few (if any) text expanders on the market have
    predefined abbreviations
  • Uses UPPER, lower and MiXEd case abbreviations
    (facilitates shorter abbreviations)
  • Thousands of uniquely abbreviated words
  • Thousands of multi-word phrases
  • Average keystroke savings gt 60

Autofill technology guesses (often incorrectly)
JAKE doesnt..
8
  • JAKE was created to be intuitive as possible.
    The abbreviations are created from
  • letters in the words/phrases themselves
  • phonetics
  • commonly accepted abbreviations such as tv for
    television

9
How JAKE Works
  • Type an abbreviation and (like magic) the
    replacement value appears.
  • Example
  • Enter ccc,
  • Hit the space bar,
  • circumstance appears (75)

10
How JAKE works
  • Examples
  • wu would th there ts this
  • cu could t' their tt that
  • shu should T' theyre tz these
  • If you notice the abbreviation for the word
these is not derived only from letters in the
word itself. In this case (and others), a symbol
that sounds identical (such as z for ese),
will be used to create the abbreviation (phonetic
    equivalency).

11
Q A
  • Q How difficult is it to learn the
    abbreviations?
  • A In most cases, there is nothing to learn.
What you really need to do is forget to type many
of the letters that you normally would.

12
  • Example
  • Pick a word you type frequently such as there.
The abbreviation for there is th. As you
type, whenever you need the word there you just
need to FORGET to type the ere. In no time
flat it becomes second nature. Add more words at
    your own pace.

13
Q A
  • Q Do I have to memorize all of the
    abbreviations?
  • A No. You can use as few (or as many)
    abbreviations as you are comfortable.
  • Hey.. if you want to type there instead of
just th go right ahead. JAKE wont stop you.
But why type 5 characters (60 more) when 2 gets
the job done? (less time and effort)

Productivity
  • Increase output (gt 60)
  • Personnel are able to produce more
  • Frees up time to focus on more important
    activities

17
  • Does this look familiar?

18
Productivity
  • How about this instead..
  • less typing
  • faster completion
  • improved morale

JAKE cuts your data entry in half.
19
Productivity
  • Average typists produce about 40
  • (correctly spelled) words per minute.

SAFETY
24
Safety
  • Reduce the risk and impact of Carpal Tunnel
    Syndrome (CTS)
  • CTS is a type of repetitive stress injury
characterized by pain and numbness in the
    forearms, wrists, and fingers

Source Carpal tunnel syndrome statistics.html
25
Safety
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
  • CTS is the single most reported musculoskeletal
    disorder
  • Accounts for nearly half of all work-related
    injury claims

Source Carpal tunnel syndrome statistics.html
26
  • With JAKE you may be able to reduce costs (risks)
    associated with repetitive motion injuries
    including
  • workers compensation claims
  • insurance premiums
  • direct and indirect costs (i.e. lost time,
    absenteeism, medical care, light duty,
    cross-training, fatigue, etc.)

www.typejake.com
27
  • The average Carpal Tunnel (CTS) Workers
Compensation claim ranges from 20,000 to
    100,000 (and higher).

Source Carpal tunnel syndrome statistics.html
28
Safety
  • Only 23 of persons having surgery for Carpal
Tunnel (CTS) are able to return to work.
  • Over 36 of persons with CTS require ongoing
treatment lasting indefinite periods of time.
  • Workers miss an average of 31 days per incident.

29
  • Ergonomic solutions (for all their benefits) fail
to address the root issue.. that of
    ever-expanding data requirements.

30
  • Business keeps demanding that we do more.. with
    less.
  • Time
  • Resources

31
  • JAKE provides a more efficient and effective
solution to complete the digitization process.

32
QUALITY
PRODUCTIVITY
33
  • Fewer spelling errors
  • Fewer spacing errors
  • Fewer capitalization errors
  • Fewer grammatical errors

www.typejake.com
34
  • Take the word organize for example (an 8
character root word). With JAKE, type oz then
hit the space bar and organize appears.
  • Results in
  • Less typing
  • 75 avings
  • Far fewer mistakes made and/or needing correction
  • If errors occur, correct them more easily
    (quicker and requiring less keystrokes)

35
Q A
  • Q Doesnt oz usually mean ounce?
  • A Yes. Normally, the abbreviation for ounce is
oz. JAKE (however) takes care of ounce and
    organize by using case-sensitive abbreviations.
  • Lower case oz organize 75 savings
  • Mixed case Oz ounce 60 savings
  • Both words are covered!
  • (2 for the price of 1)

36
Q A
  • Q What if I want to have oz appear as-is in a
    document?
  • A You can turn JAKE on or off at your
    convenience.
  • To have oz appear as 16 oz. (for example) just
turn JAKE off and type oz. When you are ready
to start using abbreviations again, just turn
    (toggle) it back on.

37
Case Differentiation
(The Big Kahuna!)
38
  • Q What is Case Differentiation?
  • A Think of it as distinguishing between a
father and son with the same name.
  • Lets look at an example..

www.typejake.com
39
Who is John Kennedy?
Both actually.. Jr and Sr normally
distinguish individuals. In JAKE, case
differentiation (UPPER/lower/miXeD) does the
trick.
40
Case Differentiation
  • Q What does doc mean to you?
  • A It depends. Does it mean..
  • doctor
  • document
  • Department of Corrections
  • Other text expanders are unable to account for
the difference. JAKE uses case-based technology
to handle these types of situations.

41
  • Lets say you are a doctor, creating documents
for the Department of Corrections. With other
text expanders you would only be able to
abbreviate one of the referenced phrases.
  • In JAKE it is simply 3 characters
  • 70 doc to produce document
  • 50 Doc to produce doctor
  • 87 DOC to produce Department of Corrections
  • 85 DoC to produce District of Columbia
  • All spelled and capitalized correctly.

EVERY SINGLE TIME!
42
Q A
  • Q What is a 'root' word?
  • A A word from which other words are built.
  • To create derived words, just add characters to
the abbreviation for the root word.

www.typejake.com
43
Derivations
By adding letters before and/or after root
abbreviations.. derivations are formed.
Example organize oz (75
savings) organizes ozs (67
savings) organized ozd (67 savings)
organizing ozg (70 savings) organizer
ozr (67 savings) organizers ozrs (60
savings)
44
Derivations
After Examples organization ozn (75
savings) organizations ozns (67
savings) organizational ozl (79

Uoz (70 savings)
46
JAKE (all versions)
  • While the benefits just described are way cool,
there are even more capabilities available to
make data entry LESS time consuming still.
  • All thats standing between you and greater
freedom (from the keyboard at least) is a couple
    bucks.

Fun?
Wellllll..
naaaaah..
but easier for sure.
