The Dangers of Hoarding
2
Hoarding refers to a psychological condition
where a person ends up accumulating large amounts
of trash or other things that dont have any
value in their house and in some cases more pets
than they can actually take care of. There are
many dangers associated with hoarding to the
occupant, their families, and neighbors in
addition to animals where pets are involved.
Hoarders or clutter cleanup services are
normally called in to deal with the physical
symptoms of the problem even as family members
are advised to look for professional assistance
to help and restore the person into normal
health. Urgent hoarders cleanup is especially
necessary where children and animals are involved
because of the perilous dangers they are exposed
to.
3
There are many cases where the weight of the
hoarded debris and items has become so heavy for
the floor to manage such a mass of debris can
easily push against walls and interfere with the
structural integrity of walls thereby putting
walls and ceilings at the risk of imminent
collapse. There have also been cases where water
pipes and gas lines have been broken from such
weight resulting in fire or flooding. Think about
the danger associated with such large amounts of
paper, boxes, books, food wrappers and packaging
as well as other combustible materials littering
the house that pose an extreme fire danger.
4
When hoarder or clutter cleanup and treatment for
the hoarder dont happen in good time, hoarders
have been known to create thin paths between huge
piles of debris this is where they pass or crawl
through as they make their way around the house.
You could have read or heard about cases of such
piles of debris collapsing and trapping hoarders
underneath or even burying them alive. This
sometimes ends up tragically because the victims
suffocate or they are unable to call for help
from underneath the mountain of trash.
5
The greatest trouble with hoarders is that in
some cases they collect relatively useless stuff
especially those who dont discard anything.
There are situations where hoarding cleaning
crews have found piles upon piles of spoiled
foodstuffs and other organic or inorganic waste
that leads to terrible odors that can cause the
spread of deadly airborne pathogens that are
harmful.
6
There was once an unusual case in San Francisco
where the mummified body of a hoarder who was
believed to have died five years earlier was
discovered in the middle of a mound of trash
inside her house. The worst thing about hoarding
scenes is that there are high chances that
biohazard waste that is toxic and infectious is
present this poses a great risk to family
members and neighbors hence the need for quick
and effective hoarding cleanup as soon as the
problem is discovered.
