  • Many businesses utilize reusable textiles of
various kinds and require employees to wear
uniforms. For generations, this policy has been
used to help businesses present a professional
image that allegedly impresses customers, but,
when pressed, a lot of managers have trouble
articulating the benefits of this approach.
Luckily, the Textile Rental Services Association
of America (TRSA) has commissioned a wide-ranging
study on the subject of uniforms and reusable
textiles lets take a look at the findings of
    this inquiry.

3
  • For the general public, employee uniforms carry a
    number of positive connotations
  • Uniformed employees seem more competent,
    courteous, and trustworthy.
  • Uniforms allow customers to identify employees
    with ease.
  • Uniforms impart a sense of quality regarding the
    companys products and services.
  • The widespread prevalence of these views has been
    confirmed by the TRSA survey.

4
  • The TRSA survey revealed that business owners and
decision-makers value work uniforms for a variety
    of reasons
  • 82 of respondents (including 94 in the
    food/beverage industry) agree that uniforms
enhance the image of their business.
  • 33 believe that uniforms aid employee
    performance.
  • 25 say that work uniforms increase
    customer/product safety.

5
  • The TRSA survey found that consumers generally
have positive associations with company uniforms
  • 76 claim that they "feel more comfortable
explaining my purchase requirements" to employees
    who wear uniforms.
  • 74 report increased confidence in employees who
    wear uniforms.

6
  • Sometimes medical personnel wear scrubs outside
of their workplace to eat lunch or for other
non-medical reasons. No less than 68 of survey
respondents tend to be "very concerned" or
"somewhat concerned when they see medical
workers in this attire outside the facility.
  • A scrub-dispensing system or lockers can help
personnel dispense with this apparel during these
times. The majority of medical facilities
    currently use neither, however.

7
  • When hunting for a hotel, consumers value price,
amenities, and location more than the quality of
the sheets and linens. Even so, 72 of consumers
say that they "expect sheets and linens to
correspond with the type of hotel I choose." It
is not a primary factor, but it is a factor,
    nonetheless.

8
  • Consumers also tend to agree that hotel
conservation programs, which encourage patrons to
reuse linens and towels, are motivated primarily
by a desire to save money, rather than by
environmental concerns. Only 43 of respondents
believed that hotels establish these policies to
    safeguard the environment.
  • 56 of consumers report preferring
    environmentally friendly laundry practices at
    hotels.

9
  • 57 of consumers prefer to eat in restaurants
that use tablecloths. This preference is most
marked among those with incomes over
    80,000/year.
  • Respondents also stated that they associated
tablecloth-using restaurants with a "higher level
of service" (62 agreed) and "higher quality
    food" (60 agreed).

10
  • Prudential Uniforms has been supplying reusable
work uniforms and other textile products to
businesses for over 80 years. With 29 locations
in nine U.S. states, Prudential Uniforms services
over 25,000 businesses. It is the first
industrial laundry chain in the world to earn a
Clean Green certificate through the TRSA, which
    recognized its conscientiousness about natural
resources and a commitment to sustainability.
