1Five Construction Firms To Develop 135km Long KGP
Expressway By 2018
2- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)
awarded six contracts to five civil engineering
construction companies for the Centre's most
ambitious Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) or
Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) Expressway project
to decongest the national capital. Following are
the five civil engineering construction companies
that won the right to develop 135 km long KGP
Expressway by 2018. These include - Ashoka Buildcon
- Gayatri Projects Ltd
- Sadbhav Engineering Ltd
- Jaiprakash Associates Ltd
- Oriental Structural Engineers
3The NHAI is executing the project under six
packages through the EPC (Engineering,
Procurement and Construction) mode. The
foundation stone of the 135-km long expressway is
likely to be laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
in the first week of November 2015. "The
construction period is 30 months and the project
is likely to be completed within the July 2018
deadline fixed by the Supreme Court. We have set
a deadline to complete the project by May 2018,"
says a senior NHAI official.
4Initially, the government was interested in
undertaking the project through private funding
on build-operate-transfer (BOT) mode, but decided
to go for the EPC mode after private sector
showed no interest. Out of the total 135-km long
expressway, about 24.67 km stretch will pass from
Ghaziabad and it is likely that this stretch will
boost economic activities effectively and make
way for upcoming affordable housing projects in
Delhi NCR
