Scott Yandell - Understanding the World of
Telecommunication Engineering
As technology continues to advance, those in the
telecommunications industry are continuously
updating their skill set to meet the ever
changing needs of the technological world. Many
in the field first earn a bachelor's degree in
some form of engineering, such as broadcast
engineering, electronic engineering, civil
engineering, and computer engineering. Each of

foundation in business as well. A career in
telecommunication engineering often involves
overseeing projects in a management capacity
through supervising staff, project budgeting, and
timely completion of each project.

While some may choose a career based upon what is
learned in a typical university setting, others
cultivate their understanding of the
technological world through hands-on experience
and accreditations that are not easily obtained.

telecommunication engineering is the profession
of ethical hacking. As Yandell lightly put, "It
initially raises some eyebrows for those who
don't fully understand the job. After a little
explaining, though, there are normally quite a
few questions and some real intrigue. The general
public thinks it pretty cool." When first hearing
the term, "hacker", many envision their favorite
spy movies and action scenes with complex scripts
and thick plots. Although the job may be
incredibly interesting to those in the
technological world, Yandell sets the record
straight. "We're hired to test the vulnerability
of a company's computer systems. I use a series
of penetration testing techniques because the
company trusts me to assess their security
systems to find and fix issues."

In a world of technology that is rapidly evolving
having the expertise to adapt to technological
advances is a highly impressive skill. Working
with various departments in the business world,
developing projects, correcting technology
issues, and implementing business strategies are
just some of the numerous expectations placed
upon those in the IT world. Finding the perfect
path in IT may seem difficult at a glance, but
for those who love working with technology

particular field is often based on a deep
understanding and appreciation for the work.
