Planning for the film poster

• For my short film poster I wanted to be able to
  create a poster that represents a Psychological
  thriller genre. The digital technology I will be
  using to produce my poster will be Photoshop to
  adjust and to alter my image I will be using for
  my poster whilst using InDesign to be able to
  place my image and conventions in the right
  places to give a real professional feel to my
  poster.

  conventions at the bottom of the page. The
  poster conventions consist of the following
• Top billing stars
• Movie title
• Tagline
• Films blurb
• The posters main focus I the image and the
  symbolism on the moth with the skull on the face.
  This draws the reader in as this creates enigma
  and for the audience to think about where the
  moth is which is placed on top of the mouth.
  Which can give the audience the feeling of the
  character being able to talk would result in
  death. This poster also has a blue filter on the
  image to create impact.

• There are two images to this poster. The tagline
  links with the films title dont say a word and
  ill never tell once again the poster has a blue
  filter over the main picture whilst the other is
  orange and looks more like the character in the
  orange filter is the main character due to strong
  contrast in colours

Flat plan of my film poster
The house style for my film will be black and
white, red and yellow. I will have the mask in
the centre of the page. This is due to the masked
character is the main feature of the film and
because of film requiring a lot of focus. The
audience will be focused on the masked killer and
want to be able to watch the film in order to
find out who the masked killer is.

What I will be adding onto my film poster

• I will be using my mask for the front cover of my
  film as it is the main focus of the film. Which
  is who is the masked killer. I will also be using
  five stars to be able to create the effect of
  critics giving my short film positive reviews and
  to also be winning awards form Cannes film
  festival to attract audience to watch my short
  film. I will be giving my film a 15 certificate
  as my target audience is older teens to adults as
  well as wanting to be able to have a film that
  will be able to to

First week of production
This is the start of the production of my film
poster I am currently altering my image for my
poster and also preparing the other film
convention images which are the five star rating
and the age certificate of the film. So far I
have laid out the conventions that I will be
using onto my page in order to get an idea of
what the layout will be like after the product is
finished. My starring role will be at the top of
the page whilst the film title will be in the
center of the page just below my image in order
to grab the audiences attention whilst using the
typical convention of the movie blurb being below
at the bottom of the poster. The tagline I will
be using says Its hard to know who someone is on
the inside this is because I want the focus on
the mask and that the masked character could be
anyone, trying to create enigma and to have the
reading thinking.

Second week of production
My poster is completed however I do not like the
finished results. The image when blown up into A3
is very pixelated and my title of my film looks
more like a horror film and therefore out of
place with the genre I wanted. The top of my
poster with the starring role and 5 star ratings,
looking overcrowded whereas the bottom section of
the poster has a lot of empty space. So I will be
altering my layout of my conventions and using a
new image.

This is my final finished product. My films title
is more fitting to the psychological thriller
genre where as before it was looking like a
stereotypical horror. I have changed my image of
the mask which is a much clearer picture as well
as adding a second picture with a black boarder
to look more polished but also to be symbolic as
the rope and the setting of the woods is used for
one of the deaths scenes in our film. The tagline
in now placed below the billing star. The text of
my films title has changed as before it did not
look associated to the actually films title so by
having the same title format will not cause any
confusion. I have added a blue cast over my image
as whilst looking over at past psychological
thriller posters they all have a blue filter over
the main image. Like Denis mcquial had stated
genre has a certain formula that is followed.
This is because producers know this will be able
to draw the audience they know they can sell
their movie to which I had also followed. As many
associate the blue filter as a thriller genre.
