Cast Iron Foundries Sharing Restoring Tips For
Vintage Cast Iron Pan
  • Wondering how to clean your tough stained cast
iron pans? Leading foundries bring some tips for
restoring your vintage CI pan without tempering
    its coat/ layer.
  • Vintage cast iron is lighter than its modern
equivalents and if you use it on regular basis,
you will make a quality difference to your life.
These CI pans are having smooth finish, which
makes them a lot more beautiful than all
    presently available non-sticks.

3
Today, you won't find more CI pan users as the
product is generally replaced by non-stick pans.
But in mid 1800s to early 1900s, cast iron
foundries were seriously producing other products
including pans, wood burning stoves, buildings,
bridges, etc. Beyond the history, there are
people who still using CI pans and baking
everyday stories over it. The magic of vintage
cast iron pans is not really a reason behind
buying it. Foundries praise these products for
providing great taste to the cooked food.
However, users find difficulties to clean it up,
but yes, there are ways to make pan shine like
before.

How To Remove All Seasoning Layers From CI Pans?
  • Once you got your cast iron, the two tasks will
be waiting for you- removal of seasoning layers,
and getting rid of rust. Before commencing the
process, you need to perform enough beating of
the pan to lose the grip of seasoning that's on
it. But this can't make your CI pan beautiful and
usable- you need to strip that seasoning layer
down and recover your pan in beautiful condition.

5
What Not To Do
  • Stop believing the sites that tell Naval Jelly
can rescue your cast iron products.
  • The above pan was painted with naval jelly and
you can see how difficult it is to get rid of.
  • Sand blasting method is also not recommended for
cleaning cast iron as it harms the original
    surface of the material.

6
Special chemicals are being provided by CI
foundries to clean off difficult stains and
seasoning from the cast iron products.
  • You can try them with caution and remove heavy
stains and seasoning layer from the pan. For
removing rust, you can anyway try vinegar. Don't
forget to buy cheap white vinegar to clean all
the rust part from your CI pan. Soak the pan in
the distilled white vinegar for 6-12 hours as it
helps removes the rust layer easily from the cast
iron. This is how cast iron foundries clean and
    restore their vintage CI products.
