Why Dehydrated Onions Are Best Foods For Storage?
  • Dehydrated onions are best food storage products
as these can be used in a variety of dishes and
recipes and make everything delicious. Onions are
rich in flavor and nutrition and you can eat
onions in rice, beans, salads, dishes, sauces,
etc. Just like salt, onions can also be shelved
for long time in dehydrated form.

3
  • You can store and use fresh onions in all
winters, but what to do in summers? Regardless of
freshness level, you can't keep the onions for
months on shelves. For this, you need to freeze
or dehydrate onions. Dehydrating onions is a
better option and you can get it done using
dehydrator equipment. You may need other things,
like- canning funnel, storage container, and of
    course onions.

4
  • When harvesting onion bulb, the top of onion
usually dump by farmers. The green onion top has
a lot of intense flavor of onion and you can take
a whole onion (including the top) for dehydration
    process. The steps are-

5
  • Pull out the onions and cut off the tops. Do
leave an inch stem on the top.
  • Slice another 6-7 inches off the bottom of the
    onion top.
  • Please note, we are saving the bulb for fresh
eating and dehydrating the greener top of the
    onion.
  • Wash the tops before cutting and slicing into
    small pieces.
  • Spread the pieces on the dehydrating trays and
let them dry at 63 C. This will take around 4-8
    hours.
  • Empty the tray when you notice the change in
    color.
  • Use canning funnel to pour dehydrated onion
    slices into empty jars.
  • You can use plastic, glass, ceramic, or metal
    container for storage.
  • Make sure the container should be air-tight to
    prevent moisture and insects.

6
  • Keep the food in a cool, dark, and dry place for
longer shelf life. Your dehydrated onions are
ready to use. You can grind them and make onion
powder and add it in dishes, soups, sauces, etc.
