INTRODUCTION
5
  • Why HYBRID ??
  • Development
  • Started in the early 1900s.
  • First HYBRID developed
  • by PORSHE called Lohner
  • -Porsche Mixte Hybrid
  • New HYBRID vehicle was
  • Built 1n 1905 by Henry Pieper.

Lohner-Porsche Mixte Hybrid
6
  • Predecessors of current technology
  • Various New Technologies Implemented
  • One of the best is REGENERATIVE BRAKING
  • A regenerative brake is an energy
    recovery mechanism
  • Converts Kinetic energy into Electrical form
  • While braking, it absorbs 80 of kinetic energy.

TYPES OF HYBRID ENGINES
  • SERIES HYBRID
  • PARALLEL HYBRID

11
  • SERIES HYBRID

PARALLEL HYBRID
  • Engine size is smaller.
  • Electric Motors and Battery size is larger.
  • Separate generator.
  • Gasoline Engine never connects to wheels
    directly.
  • Either power source at a time.
  • Better to use in cities.
  • Engine size is larger.
  • Electric Motors and Battery size is smaller.
  • Electric motor as generator.
  • Gasoline Engine connects to wheels directly.
  • Both power sources at a time.
  • Better to run on highways.

12
ADVANTAGES
  • Lower emissions and better mileage.
  • No energy consumption on ideal state.
  • At lower speeds i.e. in traffic no smog is
    emitted.
  • Greater mileage.
  • Noise pollution and emission of CO2 are
    considerably reduced.
  • Reliable and comfortable.
  • Cleaner cars
  • Regenerative Braking technology
  • Reduce the dependency on fossil fuels.

13
DISADVANTAGES
  • Expensive
  • Complicated Construction
  • Maintenance is high
  • Batteries are not yet much advanced so as the
car could run for a larger distance on
    batteries itself
  • More weight due to battery packs
  • In the event of an unfortunate accident, there
is a risk of exposure to high voltage wires
  • Not suitable for long distance journey
  • Some batteries fail deliver in cold weather
  • Spare parts maybe hard to find and may be costly
