AirAsia Flight Climbed and Stalled Right Before
Crash
  • Heres a recent event by which it is very
interesting to hear the views of aviation safety
consultants. A top Indonesian official said on
Tuesday that AirAsia Flight QZ8501 climbed
rapidly and stalled just before it crashed.
  • Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan told news
agencies Reuters and AFP that the plane did
indeed stall in a parliamentary hearing.
  • "The plane, during the last minutes, went up
faster than normal speed ... after then, it
stalled. That is according to the data from the
radar," Jonan said, according to the news
    agencies.
  •
  • The plane was said to have climbed at speeds of
6,000 feet per minute according to Jonan.

Crash
  • To put this into perspective, an F/A-18 Super
Hornet can travel at speeds of up to 30,000 feet
per minute. The only problem is that commercial
planes were designed to travel at much slower
speeds. Aviation service providers and their
pilots are aware of these limitations so there
    must have been something more.
  •
  • According to the latest reports from analysts and
experts, the ill-fated AirAsia plane, an Airbus
A320, was climbing at a rate much faster than it
could and should on its own. This might have
meant that they must have been encountering
really bad weather and strong winds during the
    flight.

AirAsia Flight Climbed and Stalled Right Before
Crash
  • The commercial jet lost contact with air traffic
controllers on December 28 as it flew from the
Indonesian city of Surabaya toward Singapore with
    162 people on board.
  • It has been said even from the first few hours
since the crash that weather might have been the
reason for the crash. If they were travelling at
speeds of 6,000 feet per minute then they might
have been caught in an updraft and their readings
might have been rather confusing to the pilot and
    co-pilot, according to aviation safety
    consultants.
