Internet Rules for Parents
  • Internet is not your electronic babysitter!
  • Teach children not to accept anything for free
over the Internet whether it is from a contest,
pop-up, e-mail or a friend they met online.
  • If your kid knows more about the net than you do,
encourage him to help you understand things.

Filtering and Monitoring
  • What is a filter?
  • An Internet filter is a tool that prevents the
access to inappropriate websites on the net. This
is done by creating a black list and white list
    of acceptable and unacceptable URLs.
  • It can also be done by examining websites for
specific keywords or unwanted content. So, if you
select to block a keyword like gambling all
sites with that keyword will be blocked.

Monitoring
  • A very basic kind of monitoring filter is
available in browsers like Internet Explorer and
Google Chrome. One can view the visited sites, by
simply clicking on the browsing history icon.
However, kids are smart enough to delete their
visited sites after every browsing session.
  • The smart way is to select filtering software
that has the ability to monitor and review your
kids Internet activities as well as set filters
    as required.
