Rainer Gruessner Esteemed Surgeon
Rainer Gruessner is a highly esteemed and
successful surgeon who was formerly Chairman of
the Department of Surgery at the University of
Arizona. He also served as Chief of the Division
of Transplantation and Surgical Director of the
Hepatopancreaticobiliary Program at the
University of Arizona. He went to Medical School
in Mainz, Germany, at the Johannes-Gutenberg-Univ
ersitat, where he also finished his Doctoral
Thesis (summa cum laude).

islet transplant programs in the nation, focusing
on the treatment of chronic pancreatitis

robot-assisted total pancreatectomy and islet
autotransplant in 2012.
