Business continuity is an arrangement set forth
by the management of the business to respond to
and mitigate the disaster, if and when it
strikes. The strategies are carved out keeping in
mind a set of problems, and not just one single
type. The detailed plans take into account the
responsibilities and the roles of the
organizations and the individual members in case
of a disaster, to avert and recover from such
disasters when they occur. The main focus is on
maintaining the operational business functions as
they are, and not to let it be disrupted by any
untoward event.

Plans and Purposes Business Continuity Plans
are developed so, so as to be effective and
responsive towards any type of disaster which may
be impending, be it natural or human made. The
focus is not to disturb the long term health of
the business, or affect the infrastructure to an
extent where the business functions cannot be met
with. These plans take into account disasters
like earthquakes, hurricanes and fires too. The
plans are so made that they constantly evolve
taking inputs which might determine the growth
and the changes in the technological world, to
make sure that the infrastructure is not
threatened by a threat against which it has been
left unprotected.

The plans which are made in this regard first are
evaluative of the resources that are at the
disposal of the business infrastructure, and the
analysis of the business as on impact of the
disaster. Upon analysis and identification of
resources that are available, a careful strategy
is developed towards mitigation of the disaster,
and the preventive measures that are to be
employed in the meanwhile to defy the disasters
in the first place from happening. As a further
step, recovery measures and evaluated and evolved
basing on the nature and volume of the business
functions and their roles in the infrastructure
as part of a business continuity plan. Testing of
the plans is necessary to ensure that the
detailed strategies work out in the time of need,
and do not fail the very purpose of such
implementation. Essential to this entire purpose
is the factor of growth and evolution of the
business functions and the recovery options.

Disaster Recovery Plans and Service Agreements
Building and developing a disaster recovery plan
is not just enough, there is the basic need to
implement training of the personnel, all the
individual members of the organization who have
some role or responsibility assigned to them for
mitigating and recovering from the disaster. The
Supply and Service Agreements form the very basis
on which you place your reliance for business
continuity. Sometimes, business organizations do
not undertake the responsibility of designing and
working on their own, but they outsource other
service providers for business continuity and
disaster recovery plans.
