• His political career began when he met Pramod
  Mahajan, a friend, colleague and brother-in-law,
  and in 1971 he became a apart of Bhartiya Janta
  Party.
• He was sworn in as cabinet Minister for Rural
  Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water and
  Sanitation last week, along with the rest of
  Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet. He was
  one of the BJP's top backward caste leaders and
  the BJP was reportedly actively considering
  naming him its candidate for the top job in the
  state.

• Early on Tuesday morning when he was on his way
  to the Delhi Airport an Indica, which was in a
  very fast speed, crashed into his car. He had a
  heart attack after the crash and had no cardiac
  activity when he was brought to hospital.
• According to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan
  he suffered cervical fractures and the oxygen to
  his brain and lungs may have been cut off. His
  liver was ruptured and he lost 1-2 liters of
  blood in the acccident.

• For his party and family, this is a second
  tragedy. In 2006, Mr Munde's brother-in-law
  Pramod Mahajan, a rising star in the BJP, was
  shot by his brother Pravin Mahajan. Pramod
  Mahajan had died 13 days later.

• The unfortunate death of Mr. Gopinath Munde the
  biggest loss not only in the political chapter
  but also in the chapter of mankind.
