  • Creating custom spreadsheets is an excellent way
    to personalize your financial spreadsheets,
    whether personal spreadsheets or business-related
    spreadsheets. Customized spreadsheets can be
    easier to understand and read if the important
    elements are clearly highlighted or accentuated
    by the customization. Offering customized
    spreadsheets as a service for clients can
    increase your customer base as well as customer
    retention and customer satisfaction.

1. Create a basic spreadsheet, upload a premade
basic spreadsheet, or open a spreadsheet template
for your application. The basic spreadsheet will
include all of your rows, columns and data
headings in place.

2. Enter all the important data that will
comprise the customized spreadsheet's contents.

3. Insert a row above all the information for a
title. Right click above the first row and select
"insert row." Type in the company name or family
name for the spreadsheet.

4. Highlight the text and change the font size to
a larger font. Add bold formatting to the font if
desired.

5. Insert an image either before or after the
title text if desired. Company logos work well
for images to be uploaded next to the title.

6. Add text formatting, like larger font or font
formatting (italic, bold, underline), to the
other important headings to help break up the
information and create clear transitions.

7. Highlight or click on specific cells in your
spreadsheet, hold the ctrl button down for
multiple selections, and customize the background
color of the cells. Highlight the text and select
customized font color if desired. Consider using
a company's colors as the palette for the
spreadsheet text and background colors.

Tips Warnings
  • Grid lines on a spreadsheet can be options. Grid
    lines can usually be turned on or off in "print
    settings" under "File."
  • Save a customized spreadsheet template by making
    a copy of your finished customized spreadsheet
    through "File" and "Save as." Then delete all the
    data--the financial numbers--and "save" again.
    Now you have a blank customized spreadsheet to
    reuse again and again.
