Title: Common Air Conditioner Problems

1
Common Air Conditioner Problems
2
Refrigerant leak
  •  Refrigerant leaks can happen with vibration of
the unit while it is operating.
  • If the leak is found the technician can remove
what is left and charge the unit levels back to
    their correct amount

3
Thermostat
  •  If the thermostat requires calibration, contact
    a service professional.
  • Before calling an HVAC company, make sure the
thermostat is on.  Many times the thermostat is
accidentally turned off or is on the wrong
    setting.

4
Compressor
  • If the unit is undercharged with refrigerant, the
compressor will run hot and will eventually
    seize.
  • If the unit is overcharged, your liquid
refrigerant will get back to the compressor and
    cause liquid slugging.

5
Frozen Units
  • Frozen coils are easily recognizable because
the pipes and unit will usually be frozen solid
in a block of ice. This causes circulation
    problems.

6
Dirty A/C Units
  • One of the most common causes of A/C failure is
    that the grills are blocked.
  • Dirty A/C units wont operate at peak efficiency,
and simple cleaning like this can help restore a
unit back to like new status.

7
Blown Fuses
  •  Fuses protect the unit's motor or compressor
against overheating, and is found in the
    evaporator coil.
  • When a motor is suspected of going bad, the
breaker is one of the first things the technician
    checks.

8
Dirty Filters
  • One possible reason that HVAC systems blow
    warm air is dirty filters.
  • The system is producing cold air but it cannot
flow through the ductwork. Clean air filters
protect your equipment and help it perform
    properly.

9
Fan Belt
  • Occasionally, air conditioners will start to make
loud (sometimes deafening) banging or wailing
noises. If this happens, most of the time it is
the result of a dislodged fan belt.
  • This fix is not difficult, but because this is
high powered electrical equipment, you will need
a licensed professional to fix it. You should not
switch on the air conditioner until its been
fixed doing so could cause far more damage.
