Title: Dietary Supplement

1
Dietary Supplement
  • Do they HELP or HURT ???

2
One of the most common questions people ask
Why do I need to take supplements, cant I get
all the nutrients I need simply by eating well?
The short answer is, and this may surprise you,
NO! The majority of adults in the United
States take one or more dietary supplements
either every day or occasionally. Todays dietary
supplements include vitamins, minerals, herbals
and botanicals, amino acids, enzymes, and many
other products. Dietary supplements come in a
variety of forms traditional tablets, capsules,
and powders, as well as drinks and energy bars.
Why we need supplements ?
3
WHY SUPPLEMENTS
  • Soil depletion has reduced the nutrient content
    of our food supply.
  • Hybrid crops provide lower-nutrient food.
  • Modern fertilizers do not supply enough trace
    elements.
  • Modern use of chemical pesticides and herbicides
all over the world make food somewhat toxic, and
damage soil microorganisms. Both of these also
reduce the nutrition of the crops
  • Long-distance transportation of many foods
    diminishes their nutritional content
  • Food processing often drastically reduces the
nutrient content of common foods such as wheat
flour, rice, dairy products and others.
  • Food additives often further deplete nutrients
  • Weak digestion and poor eating habits impair the
    absorption of nutrients.
  • Stressful and hurried lifestyles
  • Toxic chemicals and toxic metals in the air,
water and elsewhere also deplete nutrients and
increase the need for nutrition to combat them.

Supplement plays one of
the important role in DIET !!
What are they?
Protein
Fibre
Why we need these??
Dietary Supplements
Minerals
Lecithin
B- Complex
5
PROTEIN
Proteins are very important molecules in our
cells. They are involved in virtually all cell
functions. Each protein within the body has a
specific role. Some proteins are involved in
structural support, while others are involved in
bodily movement, or in defense against
germs. Proteins vary in structure as well as
function. They are constructed from a set of 20
amino acids and have distinct three-dimensional
shapes. The amount of quality protein in your
diet is the single most important calorie that
influences your metabolic rate, favorably
influencing weight loss.
  • helps you sustain muscle during weight loss
  •  improve your muscle fitness
  •  improve your immunity, and antioxidant function
  • build HDL cholesterol
  • enhance insulin and leptin function

6
FIBRE
Fiber is the part of plant-based foods that our
bodies can't digest. It passes through our
digestive tract without providing nutrition or
calories, and yet it is very healthy for us.
Fibre can help with weight loss by
  • Being low in calories but taking up space in the
stomach therefore helping with feeling fuller.
  • keeping you feeling fuller for longer.
  • Interfering with the absorption of fats therefore
reducing the amount of energy absorbed in that
    meal.
  • usually found in low calorie foods which are high
in metabolism supporting vitamins and minerals
  • Necessary for regular bowel movements, therefor
preventing the storage of extra weight from
    waste.

7
LECITHIN-E
Lecithin is a lipid made up of choline and
inositol. It's one of the main components of cell
membranes and has a number of functions, one of
which is to control the flow of nutrients into
and out of the cell. Lecithin occurs in foods
such as soya beans, yeast, peanuts, fish and egg
yolks as well as foods like chocolate and
margarine, where it's added as an emulsifying
agent. Most lecithin supplements are derived from
soya beans.
The role of Lecithin in Weight Loss
keeps fats dissolved in liquid, and because of
this it does aid in the bodys processing and
movement of fats.
Lecithin also aids in the health and performance
of the liver, the part of the body that processes
fats, and therefore also may affect fat
metabolism.
8
B-Complex
B vitamins are a group of water-soluble vitamins
that play important roles in cell metabolism. The
B vitamins were once thought to be a single
vitamin, referred to simply as vitamin B. The
vitamin B complex is well-known for acting as a
catalyst for energy metabolism in your body.
Without it, your body cannot break down
carbohydrates, proteins and fats for energy.
  • B1 and B2 are important for healthy functioning
of the muscles, nerves, and heart
  • B3 helps regulate the nervous and digestive
    systems
  • B5 and B12 are required for normal growth and
    development
  • B6 supports the immune system and aids the body
    in breaking down protein
  • B7 is involved in the production of hormones
  • B9 helps cells make and maintain DNA

9
Minerals
What are minerals? Minerals are inorganic
substances meaning that they occur naturally in
non-living things such as water, rocks and soil.
Plants get minerals through the soil and water
they absorb, animals ingest minerals from eating
plants and other animals as well as from drinking
(think mineral water) and we humans ingest
minerals from the food that we eat and from
drinking fluids. They are important for building
strong bones and teeth, blood, skin, hair, nerve
function, muscle and for metabolic processes such
as those that turn the food we eat into energy.
This means that minerals are needed for the body
to work properly, for growth and development, and
overall, for maintaining normal health.
Minerals is included Calcium, Magnesium, Iron,
Zinc Potassium. It plays an important role in
our weight loss.
