Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill
  • In April 2013, Gang of Eight members crafted the
Comprehensive Immigration Bill which was passed
in the Senate in June 2013 with 68-32 votes.
  • The comprehensive bill addresses many key
immigration issues like border security measures,
merit based visa system and the path to
    citizenship.
  • The House Republicans opposed the bill by calling
it Awful, especially the path way to
    citizenship legislation.

4
  • In Senate bill, it suggests 13 years of path to
    citizenship for the undocumented(illegal)
immigrants if they fulfill few regulations.
  • According to a survey, around 11 million
undocumented immigrants live in the United
    States.
  • The Democrats in the House are in favor of the
Senate bill while the Republicans oppose amnesty
    to undocumented immigrants.

5
Immigration System in the USA
  • Currently, the USA allows 2,26,000 immigrants per
year to receive green cards based on the
    petitions filed by the relatives.
  • If this speed continues, it will take around 19
years to complete the existing backlog of the
immigrants waiting for the green cards.
  • The main cause of this backlog is the current
broken system of the United States.
  • United States has failed to protect the US
borders especially the US-Mexico borders which is
the most favorite place for illegal immigrants to
    enter in the US.

6
Different ways to get green card in the US
Green Card through Family
Green Card through Job
Green card through Investment
Green Card through Refugee or Asylee status
Green Card through Self Petition
Green Card through special categories of jobs
7
One immigrant pays 680 for the Green card
application
  • 595 for the application fees and 85 for the
    Biometric fees
  • Biometric fees means fee costs of other
background checks and finger-printing and all.

8
  • Green card process is very tiring and long
process with so much documentation, immigration
    medical exam and final interview.
  • According to the experts, the year 2014 will be a
path breaker for the US immigration legislation
making. We just hope that the House comes up with
    strong and effective immigration bill.
