1. Separate Detox and Residential Section
Most rehabs separate these things out, and keep
the sick people all in a detox area until they
are well enough to attend groups.  Heck, some
people are still drunk or high when they get to
rehab so you dont necessarily want to mix
everyone up and get people triggered in this
way.  So you can pretty much always expect that a
drug rehab will have a separate detox area.

2. 12 Step Based Recovery
There are exceptions of course, but the vast
majority of drug rehabs will be based on the 12
step program.  This is both a good thing and a
bad thing.  Good because there is a huge network
outside of rehab for supporting people in
recovery.  Meetings are basically free and they
are pretty much everywhere, so using this huge
recovery network makes practical sense.  But it
can be bad because many people are turned off by
the 12 step program, and it does not work the
majority of people who try it.

3. Counselors and Therapists
If you go to drug rehabilitation, you can expect
to be connected with an individual therapist or
counselor to help you during your stay there.
They may even help you design an aftercare plan
for follow up after you leave rehab.

4. Peers
You are going to meet others in rehab who are on
the same path that you are on.  People who want
to get clean and sober, just like you.  You may
become close friends with your peers while in
treatment, and they can help you to stay clean
and sober in the long run.

5. Group Therapy
This is slightly different from AA and NA
meetings.  Group therapy is more like discussion
with your peers plus a therapist or two.  It can
be valuable for exploring the issues that may be
holding you back in recovery, and it can help you
to hold each other accountable to make the right
choices when you leave treatment.
