- Recognize the most common conflicts
- Know when to contact NSLDS for assistance and
what information to provide
3What is a conflict?
- There is incorrect information on the NSLDS.
- The incorrect information affects the students
eligibility. - Both factors must be present before the NSLDS CCC
will work a conflict.
4Defining a conflict
- Discrepancies that affect aid eligibility
- Incorrect identifiers in NSLDS
- First name
- Date of birth (DOB)
- Social Security Number
- Incorrect Statuses
- Incorrect loan amounts
- Duplicated records
5When is a conflict not a conflict?
- Last or middle name is incorrect
- Incorrect name or SSN is in history
- Loans closed for over three years
- Current year Pell awards
6Non-conflict cases
- Loan status that has recently changed
- Loan status that does not affect eligibility,
such as a CA status - Aggregate determinations for consolidations

Scenario 1 Students last or middle name is
incorrect on the NSLDS record. Joanna Q Single is
listed on the NSLDS as Joanna P Married. What
should the FAA do?

- Issue Last name or middle name is incorrect
- Effects of the error None, these are not key
identifiers for the student/parent - Resolution Disburse aid advise student to
contact the data provider to correct the name

Scenario 2 Students correct first name or SSN
appears in history

- Issue There is an incorrect first name or SSN in
the history, or first name is incorrect, but the
correct name is in the history - The current SSN is not a pseudo and
- All the aid on the record belongs to your student.

- Effects of the error None, aid will load for the
student - Resolution Disburse aid if student is otherwise
eligible.

Scenario 3 SSN is wrong, but all aid on the
record is closed and over 3 years old
14SSN conflict with closed loans
- Issue NSLDS lists another students aid under
your students SSN - All the aid on the record comes from the same
data provider and - All loans on the record have been closed (in a
paid status) for over 3 years.

- Effects of the error None, aid will load for the
student - Resolution Disburse aid when NSLDS loads aid
for your student, the incorrect data will move to
a pseudo-SSN

Scenario 4 A current year Pell is reporting with
incorrect name or DOB

is being reported and - The student identifiers or grant information is

Scenario 5 Mary Misreported is coming back to
start her 2nd year at East State Univ (ESU).
After awarding fall aid, ESU receives a new
postscreened ISIR (reason code 01) indicating a
default. After review of NSLDS website, they
dont see the Default.
What should ESUs FAA do?

Hes again attending school but the defaulted
loan remains on NSLDS. What should the FAA do?

with the same disbursement dates from different
schools. What should the FAA do?

issued by your school. - NSLDS will work with DCS to resolve the problem.

You subrogated the loan to FSA in 1999 and now
the loan is duplicated on NSLDS one assigned to
