Portable Routers
Table top Router

• Used to shape edges of wood frames, rout grooves
  mortises, trim veneer plastic laminates.

• Router size is indicated by its horsepower rating
  and the capacity of its chuck (bit shank
  diameter).
• Standard bit sizes are ¼ ½.
• Spindle speeds are very high 20,000 to 30,000
  RPM.
• Portable routers can be standard or plunge types.
• Many come with a fence attachment to maintain a
  specific distance from the edge of a work piece.
• Portable routers are often used in combination
  with a variety of templates to cut dovetail
  joints, box joints and mortises.

Over-arm / Pin Router

• Fast and efficient means of producing
  repetative work such as cut-outs, grooving,
  lettering and edging.
• Guide pin follows a groove in a template
• allowing router to cut to templates shape.

• Size is determined by diameter of the spindle
  that holds cutters.
• Common sizes are ½, ¾, 1
• Height of spindle is adjustable.
• Cutter rotation is usually counter-clockwise with
  speeds from 5,000 to 10,000 rpm.
