Hi, Im Mica the mineral and Im found in
Extrusive Basaltic Igneous rocks. This means that
you can find me hangin around in all rocks that
were formed from magma that is hard, dark, and
comes together on the surface of Earth. But lets
back up a few million years or so
3
I was born many, many, many, many millions of
years ago from a hot volcano's magma by the name
of Pooky. This volcano erupted into a huge splash
of lava (me) and cooled on the side of the
erupting cliff.
4
I sat on that cliff for a few million years while
I wrote poetry, with my friends Adam, Stacy, and
a very annoying rock, Richard. My friends were
all Extrusive Granitic, or Extrusive Andesitic,
which just means that they were all very
different from me, and I wanted to get away from
them, FAST!!!
Roses Are Red, Violets are Blue, Im a smelly
rock and so are you
5
It must have been my lucky day, or just some kind
of miracle because just as I was writing a very
depressing poem entitled, I Hate Myself, a big
creature dressed in silver stepped on me shoe,
gum, and all, the pressure allowing me to be
flattened, compacted, and cemented all in one
step. My temperature raced up before I passed out.
6
I stayed on that dirty old boot for three whole
years. I must have stepped on all 50 states and
at least seven different countries. Then thats
when it happened. Booty, which was what I called
the shiny boot, and I were exploring and taking
some samples when all of the sudden, the volcano,
Mount Saint Helens to be exact, went haywire. I
went spiraling off the rubber sole and into a
huge dark pit full of cloudy dust, called
sediment. MAN it was hot in there! I was under
some serious pressure now.
7
The temperature and pressure in Helen, the
volcano, was so great that I was melted down into
a liquid, like the orange juice you drink in the
morning. Over a long time, liquid me cooled down
and hardened into rock solid me. From there I was
knocked into layers with a bunch of other rocks,
it was not very fun.
8
Poor little me was broken up into a bunch a of
little tiny pieces called sediments. Over the
next million years or so, I was compacted and
pushed around from a foliated to a nonfoliated,
which means I was forced into layers, and then
forced out of them, it was a very hectic
environment for me.
9
Right now, I am somewhere in a huge hole looking
at this river. I have been here for a few million
years, cutting into the Earth, which some people
call erosion. I probably will be here for a few
million more, so maybe you can com by sometime
and say hello!
