The first element is the Plot

• Series of related events that make up a story

Bare Bones of the Plot

• Exposition introduction to the story, setting
  and characters
• Conflict struggle between opposing forces
• Climax highest point of action
• Resolution outcome of the conflict

Characters

• A character is a person, or sometimes even an
  animal, who takes part in the action of a short
  story or other literary work.

Main Characters

• Protagonist
• The main character
• that drives the
• action of the story

• Antagonist
• The character who works against the protagonist
  or is the protagonists side-kick

Setting

• The setting of a short story is the time and
  place in which it happens. Authors often use
  descriptions of landscape, scenery, buildings,
  seasons or weather to provide a strong sense of
  setting.

• The theme is the central idea or belief in a
  short story
