Eucharistic spirituality The Eucharist needs
not only be the center of our lives it needs to
be the greatest influence in our lives. Love
Love Requires Sacrifice. The type of Love we
need to show our teenagers is Agape- Agape is
selfless love. This type of love is rare in our
society. Love is not just some warm feeling we
have toward the people in our life who are easy
to love. It is a choice we make to love someone,
even the hardest people for us to love. The
young people here want to be part of
something, to be in communion with other people,
to be wanted. We need to include young people
on the journey to connect them to the Church and
let them know that they are not alone. Joy Is
a spiritual gift which flows from the inner
realization that you are embracing the will of
God. Affirmation Prayer, Love, Even people
who are striving for Holiness need to hear
encouragement from their brothers and
sisters. Its not just saying thank you or good
job it is becoming people of blessing. Authenticit
y When we conform our lives to our original,
God Himself. We are authentic when we stop
trying to be something other than beloved (yet
broken) sons and daughters of God. The Second
part of this is to reproduce the essential
features of God in our everyday
living. Evangelization Without Jesus in our
heart, weve got nothing to say. Without Jesus in
our heart, there is no evangelization. With
Jesus in our heart, everything is evangelization.
Evangelization is no longer what we do but who
we are. Primary vocation Its not all about
what I want to be when I grow up or get involved
with. God is not a waiter, and vocations dont
come on a menu for us to pick what we like. God
gives us free will to choose it or not to, not
the authority to decide on what our vocation
is. The menu has one course we can eat and be
happy, or refuse and be empty. Adam and Eve
thought they could choose their own entrée.
They ate and were left empty. Our primary
vocation as Christians is to Love God. To love
God means to know Him, discern His design for our
lives and trust Him enough to follow His plan,
even if it is not our plan.

  • tWhat is Confirmation?
  • The meaning of Confirmation is sometimes
misunderstood by Catholics. It is common to hear
that Confirmation is the end of the line
    sacrament-a graduation.
  • Life shows us as well as teaches us that it is
necessary for our Faith to grow deeper and
stronger each day. Life can gives us many joys
and Life can be a tangled webs of chaos that
knocks us down quickly. Our relationship or lack
of a relationship with God can make it or break
    it for us.

8
What is Confirmation?
  • The Church has constantly affirmed that
confirmation is the gift of the Holy Spirit,
given for the sake of helping a Christian bear
witness to the faith. It is more about Gods
gift to us. It has more to do with the grace
that follows the reception of the sacrament than
about the preparation that precedes it. Its
about conversion and transformation and how we
    live out our faith.

9
What is Confirmation?
  • Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation together
    constitute the sacraments of Christian
initiation, whose unity must be safeguarded. It
must be explained to the faithful that the
reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is
necessary for the completion of baptismal
    grace(Rite of Confirmation, Introduction).
  • For by the sacrament of Confirmation the
baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church
and are enriched with a special strength of the
Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses
of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and
defend the faith by word and deed (Lumen Gentium
    II) CCC1285

10
  • From 1983-2008 (9) in the Diocese of Kansas
City-St. Joseph, the minimum age for the
Confirmation of those baptized as infants has
been the 2nd semester of tenth grade lasting
12-18 months. This policy was implemented under
    Bishop John J. Sullivan (1977-1993).
  • Prior to that time. Bishop Charles Helmsing
(1962-1977) had permitted the Confirmation of
children before First Communion. Bishop Helmsing
had been involved with the ecumenical dialogue of
the Second Vatican Council, and he thought this
practice was more in keeping with the Eastern
    Rites.
  • Bishop Raymond Boland (1993-2005) implemented no
changes to the policies of Bishop Sullivan.
  • Bishop Robert W. Finn (2005) has expressed a
desire to strengthen youth ministry in the
diocese, while being open to lowering the age of
Confirmation. He appointed a commission to study
    the situation.
  • The Commission has made a distinction between
youth ministry and Confirmation catechesis. It
believes that the process for the sacrament of
Confirmation be shorten, confirm either at the
9th or 10th grade year and focusing only on
    confirmation catechesis-church teachings.
