Philosophy Statements Career Goals
and
I believe ...The art of fashion is an extension
of oneself that can transform and be
transformed. ...Through teamwork and the
compellation of many perspectives, a more
efficient, well-rounded result can be
produced. ...Anyone can be a part of the fashion
industry, but only those with true passion for
this art will succeed. ...Time management is
essential in this business extensions are too
tempting and reaching a deadline is a must.
Within 5 years, I plan to ...Be well
established and integrated with a company,
holding a career in design. ...Be an asset to
the industry through applying my knowledge and
dedication. ...Continue to learn, analyze, and
apply new information to my fashion
career. ...Obtain a better understanding of the
fashion industry and of myself as a designer.

Internship
During Summer 2008, I was a design intern for a
boutique in Chicago called Habit. I was able to
showcase my design and merchandising abilities
through many mediums.
7
Design During my internship, I was able to
create original patterns for the Superficial,
Inc. clothing line. I also constructed these
garments to be sold in the boutique. These are
some photos of my patterning process and the
final product for a skirt. I then used this
pattern to create a size run from extra-small to
large.

Merchandising I helped market and prepare for
the DoDivision street fest and the Chicago
Sidewalk Sale in Daley Plaza during my
internship. During the festival, our store had a
sidewalk sale that I assisted with customer
service, checkout, and alterations. This is a
photo of me working at the sale and organizing
the garments. I was also able to help with
visual displays of the garments and jewelry.
9
Course Work
During my undergrad, I studied different areas
of Apparel Merchandising and Design, such as
fashion illustration, patterning techniques,
functional design, multi-channel retailing,
fashion buying, textiles and apparel in a global
economy, and computer aided design. For my Art
History minor, I also studied art criticism and
design aesthetics.
10
Fashion Illustration
This sketch of an evening gown was created to
show the use of sparkle and shine. Metallic
markers were used for silver satin and gold
beads. Four-pointed stars were used for the
sparkle detail. I used a side profile view for
this sketch to show the silhouette and the detail
in the side of the bodice. This menswear sketch
was created with markers and colored pencil. The
purpose of this assignment was to expand my
practice in sketching a wide variety of apparel.
Rather than strictly working with womens wear, I
wanted to practice menswear to obtain more
experience in designing/sketching for different
markets.
11
Patterning Techniques
These are a few photos garment I created with my
own pattern and the final product. This knit
racer-back top was hand patterned using
traditional flat patterning techniques. While
creating this garment, I made sure to consider
the stretch of the knit, and patterned the grain
lines accordingly. This pattern was then graded
from a size small to sizes medium and large.
12
Functional Design
This first photo was taken with the Human
Solutions VITUS/smart 3D body scanner, which
provides a virtual image of over 80 different
measurements of the subjects body.
The second photo was taken with the FLIR Systems
ThermoVision A20M infrared imaging system. This
system is accompanied by a data
acquisition/analysis software that helped us
better understand the different temperatures of
the subject. This advanced equipment was used in
my functional design class to obtain more
accurate information for our designs.
13
This project was based on designing/constructing
a functional cold weather accessory. My group
created the Trans-Trend Topper. This was a
thermal hat that turned into a scarf and also had
headphones that were cell phone and MP3 player
accessible. We were able to create this hat by
using the thermal imaging camera to locate the
coldest parts of the head/neck while in a cold
environment. We then researched fabrics to
determine what would be best for this design. The
fabrics that we chose were a blue, water
repellent Ultrex-2ply and a creamy Minky
polyester. We submitted this project to the
Student Research and Creative Endeavors
Exhibition in Spring 2008. We also submitted
this hat in the Central Michigan University
Threads 2008 fashion show and received an award
for the Best Design in Headgear.
14
This is a couture gown that was created to
raise awareness for the Malaria epidemic. The
gown was hand draped and created entirely out of
mosquito netting. This was a group project, and
these photos show the designers and myself
working on the project as well as the final
product.
15
For this functional project, my group created a
new harness/backpack for a students assistive
dog. The previous harness was too small for the
dog and often put strain on his back. The
student also had problems with the old handle not
being comfortable and supportive as well as the
old pockets being too small. To correct these
problems, my group created a larger harness with
elastic bands to accommodate the dogs growth. We
also enlarged the pockets and added a padded
handle for more support and comfort. Both the
harness and backpack were made out of heavy-duty
materials such as bright orange Gortex, which is
water repellent and is treated with SPF for added
sun protection for the dog.
16
Multi-Channel Retailing
This project was created to study the tools of
catalog retailing. Once the target market and
company were chosen, my group decided on the
organization and pertinent information for each
page. The target market for this project was
college students ages 18-24. Each page of the
catalog offered a different outfit based on the
days of the week. The overall theme of the
catalog was First Class Fashion, implying an
academic feel to this book. Photoshop and
Illustrator were used to create this catalog.
17
Fashion Buying
This 6 Month Plan was based on a set of given
numbers, and I had to calculate and analyze the
results. I picked a specific department (womens
knits) of a specific company (Gap) to be a
hypothetical buyer for. With this information, I
was able to apply the numbers to my department
and determine the new budget for the next season
based on previous and/or expected turnovers,
markups, and sales.
18
Textiles and Apparel in Global Economy
The purpose of this group project was to create a
high-end apparel company using India as our
inspiration. Many aspects of our company, aside
from the clothing, had to be considered. Some of
these aspects were the companys logo/label and
packaging, the store layout, and different visual
displays. This is the inspiration board that I
created for our group to base our companys
foundation on.
19
These were some of my personal clothing designs
as well as our groups packaging and visual
merchandising designs.
20
Computer Aided Design Adobe Illustrator/Photosho
p
This mens jacket design was also created in
Adobe Illustrator. The reason I chose to create a
mens garment was because I wanted to keep my
design experience diverse. This project offered
me experience with applying different color
combinations to one design, which incorporates
the marketability of the garment.
21
This design was created in Adobe Illustrator, and
I created and applied my own custom pattern to
the garment. I chose lingerie for this project
because I wanted to challenge myself in a
different area of design. I thought it would be
interesting to apply a pattern to a bra rather
than something more general, like a shirt or
skirt. I also considered the presentation for
this design, as I wanted it to be eye catching
and interesting.
22
Computer Aided Design Letcra U4ia
These prints and sweater designs were both
created in Lectra U4ia. The purpose of this
project was to create more advanced prints than
Illustrator. Different weaves were applied to
these swatches for a more realistic look. The
proportion of the prints, when applied to the
garment, was also a factor in these designs.
23
Art Criticism
The guidelines for this paper was to make a any
claim pertaining to art and support it with
different art pieces and credible sources. The
topic I chose was Art Criticism Looking at
Images. Through the paper, I claimed that every
image could essentially be considered art when
the principles and elements are applied. The
thesis of my paper read as follows Many
critics have alluded toward the social and
political nature of art, but through these
aesthetics, the value of a piece of art differs
from one person to the next. Therefore, art
should not be defined through aesthetics instead
it should be based upon structures that aim to be
more critically objective. I enjoyed writing
this paper because it opened my eyes to all types
of art and helped me apply the concept more
directly to fashion. I realized that even if a
garment is not pleasing to ones eye, it is still
a part of fashion.
24
Design
This piece was created while studying the effects
of line. We were instructed to re-create a piece
of art that focused on line and high contrast. I
chose this piece, In The Car by Roy Lichtenstein
because I think it does have a major focus on
line as well as high contrast between the
colors. This piece was re-created with acrylic
paints and black marker.
25
Involvements
I have expanded my experience beyond my academic
courses and have taken part in fashion shows, the
Fashion Association of Merchandising and Design,
as well as a Writing Center conference in
Columbus, Ohio.
26
Threads Fashion Show
A student-run and produced fashion show at
Central Michigan University that showcases many
fashion students work.
For this collection, I created three looks based
on a consistent color palate. I personally
designed, patterned, and constructed all of these
pieces, as well as modeled one look in the
show. During the preparation of the show (from
January 2007-April 2007), I was also the
apprentice for the producer. During my
experience, I acted as an assistant to the
at-the-time producer and helped with organizing
events, fundraising, meetings, and decisions for
the show.
27
I had the opportunity to produce the Threads 2008
fashion show. This position came with many
responsibilities, such as managing and organizing
over one hundred students, meeting with sponsors,
professors, and companies, creating a theme for
the show, organizing weekly meetings and garment
checks with the designers, fundraising,
promotions, and also designing for the show. The
theme of the show was Inspired and required the
student designers to base their collections on a
specific inspiration of his/her choice. The
inspiration that I chose was Andy Warhol. These
three garments were also designed, patterned, and
constructed by me. I chose to mix womens and
menswear for this show to add variety to my
experience. I also created the womans look out
of recycled materials, such as a plastic bag and
an old raincoat. I received two awards for this
collection Best Construction, Best
Tailoring, and Best Menswear.
28
FAMD
Fashion Association of Apparel Merchandising and
Design. This is a registered student organization
that focuses on bring apparel students together
to support a philanthropy, fundraise, socialize,
and expand our academic experience.
29
ECWCA
East Central Writing Centers Association. An
annual Writing Center conference held in
Columbus, Ohio. This brings together writing
consultants from all over the country to share
experiences, tips, and knowledge.
During this conference, I was able to head and
organize a workshop for writing consultants who
attended. The topic of my workshop was about a
consultants growth at a writing center and the
stages he/she goes through during his/her
experience. This workshop was 45 minutes long
and included four other consultants whom also
presented.

Clothing Line LindsEliz?
I began this clothing line in September 2008 and
currently sell it in Chicago, Illinois. I design,
pattern, construct, and market the line
independently. Through this experience, I have
learned a great amount about the necessary
dedication in running a clothing line.
