Scantron Performance Tests
  • The Scantron Performance Series is a web-based
    computer-adaptive diagnostic test that's
reliable, valid, and standards-based. Our staff
can use it to pinpoint proficiency levels
instantly, place students in the appropriate
    programs, report progress, and predict
    performance on high-stakes tests.
  • With Performance Series, students take
individualized tests. The online test adjusts
automatically to each student's ability level,
generating more difficult questions if the
student is answering correctly and easier ones if
    the student is answering incorrectly.
  • Using Performance Series, individual teachers,
administrators, students, and parents all get the
test results they need. For example, the Student
Report shows individual student performance, so
classroom teachers get data to help them create
learning groups. The Summary Report shows average
performance data at the school level, so school
administrators can target curriculum areas in
    need of help.

Scantron Performance Test Notations
  • Having completed our initial year with Scantron
and established baseline scores for reading and
mathematics we are pleased with the students
consistent progress in reading and will certainly
utilize the data and remediation abilities of the
program to assist students in both reading and
mathematics. The national No Child Left Behind
and Michigans Education Yes initiatives focus
on reading and mathematics and in both of these
areas our students will benefit from the use of
    the Scantron diagnostic.

10
Michigan Educational Assessment Program
  • Michigan's MEAP tests are based on the Model Core
Curriculum Outcomes and the Content Standards
approved by the Michigan State Board of
Education. Huron has been administering the test
for five years and the following statistical
    charts show the improvement trends.

11
About the Report
  • Long before the wide sweeping Federal legislation
known as No Child Left Behind mandated that
    States establish assessment systems and
accountability plans Michigan had in place data
driven diagnostics to assess Michigan students
mastery of state established standards. For many
years now the Michigan Educational Assessment
Program has provided public schools with the data
necessary to evaluate student learning and
further assess the effectiveness of classroom
instruction. The purpose of this report is to
disseminate for our families and the community at
large the results of this years battery of
testing. As required by the Michigan Department
of Education we will report all disaggregate
populations as well as provide helpful
comparative data to fully understand the impact
of the data collected. We will use graphs,
charts and brief narrative in an attempt to make
the data meaningful and display the successes and
challenges that our students face in meeting
    established state standards.

12
  • Report Specifics
  • Disaggregate Populations Whenever ten or more
of an effected population are identified at any
grade level it is necessary to provide
    disaggregated data for those groups.
    Disaggregate populations can include gender,
race, economic status, special needs students and
the like. Gender has been established annually
since Huron Academy began taking the MEAP for
every grade level while the other groups are
totally dependant on the population taking the
    test.
  • School-wide Statistical Breakdown Data will be
broken down by individual grade level tests so
that each area of testing can be easily seen. A
brief narrative following each grade level will
    assist in the graphic analysis.
  • Comparative Analysis To align with our school
mission and goals statement a number of
comparisons will be made comparing the results at
Huron Academy with other state and local
districts and schools. Specifically we will look
at local public school district results, other
public school academies in Macomb County and all
Ferris State authorized public school academies
    within the state.

population the averages moved closer to state
norms. 51 of 62 students performed at or above
    state standards.
  • Writing - Girls outperformed the boys by a wide
margin with 67 of all females tested meeting or
    exceeding state standards.
  • Mathematics - 48 of 62 students met or exceeded

for 2006-2007
21
4th Grade Analysis
  • Reading 85 of the population met or exceeded
state standards this year in reading, this is
well above the state averages. Huron has been
consistently scoring above the state averages for
    a number of years.
  • Writing - A 31 drop in enrollment translated to
slightly lower writing scores with 37 meeting or
exceeding the standards. Despite the lowered
score the 4th grade still achieved the 76
ranking for the total battery of English Language
    testing.
  • Mathematics - 83 of the population are meeting
state standards or above this year in
mathematics, this is above the state averages.

26
5th Grade Analysis
  • Reading 44 of 54 students all met or exceeded
state standards, an opening percentage of 81
proof positive that our reading programs at Huron
    are working.
  • Writing - 30 of our students are meeting or
exceeding the standards. Despite the lowered
score our 5th grade students still achieved a 72
ranking for the total battery of English Language
    testing.
  • Mathematics - 40 of 54 students met or exceeded
state standards for a percentage of 74, staying
consistent with previous years. These scores are
above state averages. There was also significant
movement from the lowest category to moderate
    standing.
  • Science - 81 of the population are meeting
standards or scoring above this year in science,
this is consistent with state averages.

31
6th Grade Analysis
  • Reading 39 of 46 students met or exceeded state
standards, or 85, directly in-line with previous
years results. With a 26 spike in population
this is a good trend to see.
  • Writing - 32 of 46 students all met or exceeded
state standards for a percentage of 70, a great
start for the first year of testing. These
    scores are above state averages.
  • Mathematics - 27 of 45 students met or exceeded
state standards for a percentage of 58. These
scores are close to state averages, improvements
can be expected in this area.
  • Social Studies - 69 of all students taking the
test scored at or above state standards. This
our second year of exceeding the state mean
    scores in this area.

36
7th Grade Analysis
  • Reading With enrollment declining down to a low
of 17 students still showed a dramatic increase
this year to 76 of the population at or above
state standards. We are at the state mean for
    this test.
  • Writing - Trends show that Huron students
continue to improve with 72 ranking for the
total battery of English Language testing.
  • Mathematics Huron showed an increase in our
students scores to 47 proficient. Combined with
the dramatic decrease of students identified in
the lowest quartile this is all very good news.

41
8th Grade Analysis
  • Reading With a 15 increase from last years
base line scores it is very pleasing to see our
8th grade students reach a level of 58
proficient. We are quickly approaching state
    averages.
  • Writing - Overall 42 of our students scored at
or above the state standards on the entire
English Language battery which was an increase
    from last year.
  • Mathematics - The amount of Huron students who
have met or exceeded state averages is at 21.
  • Science - Although the proficiency percentages
dropped this year the trend toward continued
decreases in our lowest scorers continued. For
three years now the population of students in the
lowest quartile has gotten smaller and smaller.

42
