• Any student may enroll in these classes, but it
  is strongly advised that you follow your
  teachers recommendations.

• Think carefully Courses have a faster pace and
  will require more preparation.

WHAT DOES Pre-AP MEAN

• Pre-AP Pre-Advanced Placement
• Pre-AP coursework develops advanced skills and
  content background to prepare students for
  college-level work for the Advanced Placement
  (AP) courses offered in high school.
• Middle school is the time to consider taking
  PreAP courses. Remember that Pre-AP courses are
  available to all students willing to commit to a
  more rigorous and challenging course of study.

WHAT IS AIM

• AIM
• (ACADEMIC INDIVIDUAL MOTIVATION)
• The purpose of AIM is to ensure our 6th grade
  students experience a successful transition into
  middle school.
• The focus of AIM is to enhance the curriculum by
  providing enrichment and/or support to the core
  academic subjects. AIM may also provide students
  with critical skills such as study habits,
  note-taking, test taking strategies,
  organizational skills, time management, goal
  setting and character education.

Physical Education / Health

• All 6th graders are required to take one- half
  year of P.E. and one-half year of health.
• P.E. uniforms are required purple gym shorts and
  a Harris
• T-shirt.

Athletics 7th 8th Grade
BOYS football, basketball, track, golf and
tennis GIRLS volleyball, basketball, track,
golf and tennis Athletics is a one year
commitment. A student enrolled in the
Athletics class must be involved in a minimum
of two sports.
Teacher recommendation and a signed commitment
form are required for Athletics

BAND

• Students must audition with band directors to
  determine which instrument the student will play.
  
• Students will also have to participate in
  concerts and contests after school.
• Parents Please discuss with the Band Director
  the cost that may be involved when taking this
  course.

Orchestra
Students will learn to play stringed instruments
such as violin, cello, viola and string base.

CHOIR
Students will sing, learn to sight-read and learn
proper vocal techniques.

Art
Activities include drawing, painting, pottery and
sculpture.

Theater Arts
This class emphasizes acting and dramatics.

TAKS

• Students who have not passed the TAKS Math and/or
  Reading test will be assigned to a class designed
  to reinforce TAKS skills instead of taking an
  elective.
• Examples of classes
• Math and Reading Workshop
• Passing the TAKS Math and Reading test in eighth
  grade is required to be promoted to high school.
• Passing the TAKS test in high school is required
  to graduate.
