Mission Statement
  • Austin Peay State University is a comprehensive
    university committed to raising the educational
    attainment of the citizenry, developing programs
    and services that address regional needs, and
    providing collaborative opportunities that
    connect university expertise with private and
    public resources.  Collectively, these endeavors

Physics Department
  • Seven physics faculty members, all hold PhD.
  • Physics student organization recognized as one of
    the top ten in nation for past two years.
  • Physics enrollment has increased dramatically in
    past six years. Most undergraduate physics
    majors in state.

  • 10 in graduate school, 2 employed
  • Vanderbilt, Duke, Baylor, Ala-Huntsville
  • Medical Physics, Astronomy, Electrical and
    Mechanical Engineering, Material Science,

  • 2006-2007 8 graduates expected
  • all planning to go to graduate school.
  • three have already been made offers.

Summer Research Experience
In the past 2 years, 20 students have been
accepted into REU programs around the
country. Material Science, Robotics, BioPhysics,
Neural Networks, Ballistic Forensics, Nuclear
Chemistry, Oceanography, Computational Methods
and Photonics. Programs students have
participated in are NASAs MSFC and GSFC, Fisk,
Cornell, Brookhaven, The National Institute for
Standards, Baylor, UC-Berkeley, Baylor and
others.
