2009 ..Three Groups
  • Group I For newcomers. Same program
    as last year.
  • Group II For people who took part in 2008.
  • Group III PIC controllers using assembly and C
    languages. This is for people who want to get
    the most out of controllers such as speed and
    flexibility. Needs a strong background in the
    Picaxe system. Advanced stuff!

Group I For Newcomers
  • Week 1 Learn the programming software.
    Use flashing Leds as an
    example.
  • Week 2 Send your Callsign to a transmitter.
    (Use Subroutines)
  • Week 3 Analog input ports. Simple LED
    voltmeter
  • Week 4 Picaxe EEPROM. Store and send Callsign
    from EEPROM
  • Week 5 Iambic Keyer
  • Week 6 Review

Group II For People who took part in 2008
  • Week 1 Review Programs, get Displays working
  • Week 2 Explore Keyboardsdata in/out via debug
  • Week 3 Send data from keyboard to Picaxe and
    test.
  • Week 4 Use internal EEPROM .. Send keyboard
    characters to display
  • Week 5 Use I2C communication with Real time
    clock in display
  • Week 6 Develop an Analog HF power meter using
    internal EEPROM
  • Week 7 Finish power meter if needed

Group III For People who want to go beyond the
Picaxe Interpreter
  • Use MicroChip Pickit2 with a programmer
  • Free software and lessons in assembler and C
    languages
  • Extensive library of programs available
  • Used by several Hams in the Ottawa area
  • Provides speed and flexibility
  • Picaxe provides an excellent stepping stone to
    PIC
  • Low cost 50 C (same as the Picaxe Kit)

Hardware Needed
  • Group I Picaxe Kit.build at home (2 Hours),
    LEDs, resistors, simple buzzer.
  • Group II USB Keyboard, speaker, display with
    Real time clock.
  • Group III Kit from MicroChip including
    programmer, USB keyboard.
  • Cost To be determined. Approx 75
