Small Business Innovation Research
INNOVATION Developed X-Band, power-efficient, low
operating voltage, radio telemetry transponder
for use in very small earth-orbiting satellites.
  • ACCOMPLISHMENTS
  • Design includes a high scale of integration, a
low mass and volume, a high level of power
efficiency, and the ability to operate from low
voltage supplies of 6.5 to 8.5 VDC.
  • Each transponder is smaller in size, lower in
mass, and lower in power consumption than other
radios with comparable capabilities available off
    the shelf.
  • Size and a flexible data rate (up to 750
kilobit-per-second) are key enablers of future
    miniature satellite missions.
  • Received the 2000 Tibbetts Award from the U.S.
Small Business Administration for its design of
    miniature X-band transponders for small
    satellites.
  • GOVERNMENT/SCIENCE APPLICATIONS
  • Awarded contract of 3.6M to build miniaturized
X-band transponders to be flown on the NASA New
Millennium Programs Space Technology 5 (ST-5)
    Nanosatellite Constellation Trailblazer mission,
which is currently scheduled to launch in late
    2004.

X-band Transponder
  • COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS
  • Received interest from a number of international
and domestic customers, since first offering
X-band transponders as a commercial product with
    several customization options.
