Purpose of School Quality Review
  • Provides an objective view of the school
  • Provides stakeholders with an accountability tool
  • Provides school additional data to inform its
    cycle of continuous learning and improvement

The purpose of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School
Quality Review process is to enable
  • CMS to develop a clear picture of the quality of
    education in its schools.
  • Schools to establish a clear view of their
    strengths, areas for development, challenges and
    successes.

The SQR Process
  • Provides a third-party, evidence-based, objective
    validation of the schools work and qualities.
  • Ensures a quality framework which operates
    consistently in each CMS school.
  • Is built upon a clear, transparent, shared set of
    criteria and supporting rubric.

  • A solid understanding of the terminology and the
    nature of evidence used in the SQR are key.
  • Awarding levels is a matter of informed
    professional judgment.

  • Cambridge Education lead reviewer
  • Two or three CMS team reviewers

  • Evaluate objectively and impartially.
  • Report honestly, accurately and fairly, ensuring
    that evaluations and judgments accurately and
    reliably reflect the schools work.
  • Work with integrity, treating everyone with
    courtesy and respect.
  • Minimize stress do not over-observe staff or
    demand unreasonable amounts of paper-work.

  • Read the Notes of Guidance/understand the SQR
    criteria.
  • Ask questions!
  • Raise staff awareness and understanding about the
    SQR.
  • Decide how your school will prepare the
    Self-Evaluation form.

  • Helps the principal and school staff reflect and
    prepare for the review.
  • Provides context and knowledge of the school for
    the review team.
  • Covers all the key areas of the review.
