• April 1775
• British tried to get colonial ammunition
  colonists fired on British troops but were forced
  to retreat.
• Shot heard round the world
• British Victory

Battle of Concord (MA)

• April 1775
• Skilled colonial sharpshooters shot at British
  troops and forced them to retreat.
• Patriot Victory

Battle of Bunker Hill (MA)

• June 1775
• Colonial forces were on Bunker Hill and shot
  down at the Redcoats On third attempt, Redcoats
  took the hill and defeated colonists.
• British Victory
• (tragic victory because of amount of British
  losses)

Battle of Moores Creek (NC)

• February 1776
• Patriots greased bridge and removed planks when
  Loyalists advanced, they fell through/off the
  bridge and were defeated
• British lose control of NC
• Patriot Victory

Battle of Dorchester Heights (MA)

• March 1776
• Colonists moved all big guns into place from Fort
  Ticonderoga to south Boston overnight. British
  awoke and retreated.
• Rebels have done in one night what we couldnt
  do in months
• Patriot Victory

• June 1776
• British pushed Patriots off of Long Island and
  eventually out of New York state.
• British Victory

Battle of Trenton (NJ)

• December 1776
• General Washington surprise attacked Hessians
  camped outside of Trenton and beat them.
• Victory encouraged men to join Patriot army
• Patriot Victory

Battle of Saratoga (NY)

• October 1777
• Patriot put up road blocks and ambushed British
  troops marching to Albany. British were forced to
  surrender.
• Turning point of the war!
• Patriot Victory

Battle of Vincennes (IN)

• February 1779
• Patriot George Rogers Clark created the illusion
  of a much larger army and the British surrendered
  the fort because they thought they were
  outnumbered.
• Patriot Victory

Battle of Camden (SC)

• August 1780
• Patriots tried to push the British out of SC, but
  didnt a well thought out strategy.
• British destroyed the town.
• British Victory

Battle of Kings Mountain (NC)

• October 1780
• Patriot Mountain Men met British commander
  Ferguson, who was overconfident and attacked
  them.
• Patriots used guerilla tactics
• Patriot victory

Battle of Cowpens (SC)

• January 1781
• British chased Patriots commander Morgan toward
  NC.
• Morgan waited in ambush for British commander
  Tarleton at an open field.
• Patriot Victory

Battle of Guilford Courthouse (NC)

• March 1781
• Patriot army formed two lines of defense at the
  battlefield and turned back the British forces.
• Patriots withdrew to conserve resources
• British victory
• (lost a lot of British soldiers, another tragic
  victory)

Battle of Yorktown (VA)

• October 1781
• British trapped by the Patriots and the French in
  the harbor British surrendered and ended the
  war.
• Patriots WIN!!!

Treaty of Paris

• 1783
• English officially surrender to the Patriots.
• US was created and recognized.
• Spain reclaimed Florida
• US borders were set and settlers were allowed to
  move west.
