Science Outline
The Effect of Violent Games on the Behavior of
People.
2
Abstract
  • The purpose of this experiment is to see how
people react/act differently to various types of
    computer/video games.
  • If the two volunteers play violent, killing games
and keep getting killed/defeated then they will
get mad and angry. If they play calm, strategy
games then it will keep them emotionally
    balanced.
  • Our experiment consists of two volunteers (Leo
Bruno), which will participate in our experiment
and we (Lucas and I) which will record their
behavior. Their behavior will be recorded every
    ten minutes for three hours.
  • The type of experiment we are doing is a
    Research/Field Test.
  • The data will be recorded on the date of
25/3/2006 and 26/3/2006, we will then go to Red
Shot and pay three hours of gameplay. We will
also buy ten salgadinhos and ten drinks of
their choice. Then we will be observing how the
volunteers act when they lose a match, when they
are interrupted, the way they eat, and how they
talk to others during each type of game.

3
  • The purpose of this experiment is to see how
peoples behavior can change depending on the
different types of games they play.

Purpose
4
  • Our hypothesis is that each game will affect the
behavior of the volunteers in a different way.
¹If they play Counter-Strike then they will
probably be angry when interrupted they will eat
fiercely swear and talk back.²If they play Total
Overdose then they will probably be thinking most
of the time and will get mad when interrupted.³If
they play Burnout Revenge then they will probably
be totally focused in taking out opponents and
winning and will not stop playing before the
race/challenge ends.(4) If they play Naruto
Narutimate Hero 3 then they will probably be
focused on damaging their opponents and will not
    stop until the fight ends.

Hypothesis

Procedure/Methodology
  • ¹We will contact the volunteers and their parents
and ask if they are allowed to go to Red Shot and
    sleep over at my house.
  • ²Right after this we will go to Red Shot and buy
salgadinhos and sodas. We will pay 3 hours of
games and observe and record their behaviors and
    reactions.
  • ³Then we will go over to Carloss house nad we
will get them more food and let them play in my
Playstation for 2 hours. Then they will sleep at
Carloss house and we will put together notes and
    observations for the Science Fair.

Background
  • Research says that people who play violent games
are usually more aggressive. A team from the
Missouri University monitored the brains of 39
people and proved that this hypothesis is
correct. Research says that most of the violent
games have greater effects on smaller children
(8-14 yrs.) than they would affect older ones (18
yrs. Or more). People who play usually say
Dont bother me! or Go away! or may even
ignore you. This research relates to our
experiment because we are also testing two
peoples behavior during gameplay. They are also
playing violent games (as in research) and we
will observe how they act during the game.
