A Brief History of the Boatswains Call
The use a the boatswains call in English ships
can be dated to AD1248 - The Crusades. In
between 1485 and 1562 it was worn as the badge of
office for the Lord High Admiral of England.
Since then it had been used to pass orders
throughout the English Fleet. It became known as
the Bosuns (Boatswains) Call in 1671
