  • Made of public corporations
  • Public corporations are businesses with stock
    holders who own a share of the business
  • Share holders are not responsible for the
    business or its debt

  • 1 - Stock ticker symbol. This is the company
    stock symbol.  Often, the stock symbol is similar
    to the company's name.  
  • 2 - Company Name. 
  • 3 - Sales 100s. The number of shares that traded
    the last day this stock traded.  The number is
    given in hundreds, so you need to add 2 zeros to
    the number to get the actual number of shares
    traded.
  • 4 Hi. The stock's highest price the last day
    this stock traded.
  •    
  • 5 Low. The stock's lowest price the last day
    this stock traded.  
  •  
  • 6 Last. The stock's last traded price.  Also
    sometimes called closing price.  
  •  
  • 7 Change. The amount of change of the stock's
    closing price and the prior trading day's closing
    price.  A "-" represents a negative change.

Sectors
  • One of the ways investors classify stocks is
    by type of business. The idea is to put companies
    in similar industries together for comparison
    purposes. Most analysts and financial media call
    these groupings sectors and you will often read
    or hear about how certain sector stocks are
    doing.

Individual Responsibilities
  • Read at least one article
  • Article is yours to use, not to keep
  • Highlight as needed
  • Look up vocabulary as needed (you can write the
    meanings on the article be neat for others
    please)
  • Using the Possible Stock sheet, write the name of
    the stock you read about as well as 3 things you
    learned
  • If you finish before the rest of your group, read
    a 2nd article
  • When everyone has finished reading at least one
    article, share with the others in your group what
    you learned about your stock
  • Use the Possible Stock sheet to write the name of
    other group members stocks and include 3 things
    they told you about their stock

Regroup
  • You will be regrouped with students from the
    other sector groups
  • Share what you learned about your sector stocks
  • Use the Possible Stock sheet to take notes on
    what your group mates tell you about the stocks
    in their sector

Decision Time
  • You are not limited to the stocks we studied in
    class, you are welcome to do your own research
    and choose other stocks
  • You have 2000 to buy the stocks of your choice
  • You need to purchase 2 stocks, 3 at the most
  • Use scratch paper to figure out how many shares
    you can afford
  • The commission is 1 of your purchase price
  • Fill out the Stock Transactions sheet

    dont like whats happening, youre welcome to
    sell them and buy new stocks. You must always
    have at least two different stocks in your
    portfolio, but never more than three. You may
    also have cash in your portfolio.
