of the Year Sheila D. Macy CWD Secretary Allen

Sheila Macy serves as an office technology
instructor at the Breckinridge Co. Area
Technology Center where she has taught for
twenty-nine years. Sheila believes that
education is a life-long process. It does not
end with a specific number of years attending
school, she says. Vocational technical
education gives students the benefit of the
latest technology as they develop a particular
skill. This skill may be directly related to
their chosen career, or it can be a
stepping-stone in the form of temporary or
part-time employment until they achieve their
career goal. She believes that no matter which
career a student chooses, the benefits derived
from vocational technical education classes are
endless. AND, due to the very nature of our
curriculum, she feels vocational education lends
itself to teamwork, problem solving, and critical
thinking skills. Mrs. Macys FBLA chapter is
one of the strongest in the state. They have
achieved the national Gold Seal Award of Merit
for the past 29 years. She says, it is
important to show students that FBLA is an active
organization and that skills learned in the
classroom can be transferred to regional, state,
or national recognition in competitive events.
She feels that one of the most important
skills any teacher can possess is to be prepared
and she prepares lesson plans a minimum of one
week in advance. She strives to make changes as
needed and does not use the same plans from year
to year this keeps her on her toes and makes
her classes more interesting. Mr. Wayne
Spencer, principal of the Breckinridge Co. ATC
has worked with Sheila for 26 years and considers
her to be his right arm. He values her vast
experience and feels this award is rightly
deserved.
