Department
2A Brief History
More than 100 years ago Sebastian Spering
Kresge opened a modest store named Kresge which
sold everything for five to ten cents. These low
prices allowed him to expand his business. It
wasnt until 1962 though that Kresge became known
as Kmart discount store. Since then more and
more stores have been appearing everywhere.
S.S.Kresge Corporation also changed its name to
Kmart Corporation in 1977. Kmart is now a 40
billion company that serves more than 2100 stores
and supercenters. Kmart is located in the United
States along with the Caribbean Islands and Asia
Pacific.
