Title: The National SAFE KIDS Campaign would like to recognize SAFE KIDS New London County for the developm

1
The National SAFE KIDS Campaign would like to
recognize SAFE KIDS New London County for the
development of this presentation. We believe it
will be a useful template in the development of
technician trainings for other SAFE KIDS BUCKLE
UP Inspection Stations.
2
Child Safety Seat Inspection Station
3
Why are we calling it an inspection station and
not a fitting station?
4
New London County SAFE KIDS
  • Received a grant through National SAFE KIDS,
funded by General Motors and the United Auto
    Workers Union
  • Grant has a value of up to 50,000
  • The grant targets the historically at risk
children of our communities (i.e. minorities,
    socio-economically disadvantaged families)

5
So what did Esther get us into?
6
3 New Components to Inspection Station
  • Voucher Program
  • Evaluation forms
  • Expansion of inspection station

7
Voucher Program
  • Car Seats are going to be available through local
human service organizations who will be
distributing the vouchers to their clients who
they have identified as being in need of a free
    safety seat.

8
How does this effect me?
9
Vouchers
  • People who are coming to inspection station with
    a voucher
  • 1. Will already have their seat waiting for them
    (per Esther).
  • -As the human service organization will
have passed the information on to us.
  • 2. Tech will need to ask for the actual voucher,
and get the child a seat that is appropriate for
    them.

10
Vouchers cont.
  • 3. Give voucher and filled out registration card
    to Senior Checker or Esther

11
What Kind of Seats Are We Going to Be Available
For Voucher Recipients?
  • Cosco Arriva Infant
  • Cosco Touriva Convertible
  • Evenflo Right Fit Booster
  • Graco Cherished CarGo 5pt Harness Booster
  • Century Breverra Sport Booster
  • Britax Laptop
  • Special Needs seats ask Esther for more details

12
An important note
  • Please be respectful of caregivers who are using
these vouchers, we want them to refer friends
    and family to our program.
  • It is our job it make children safe, not to judge
    others!

13
Confidentiality
14
Why is confidentiality important at the
inspection station?
  • Liability purposes
  • Program integrity
  • Gaining trust within community
  • Persons right to privacy

15
When is it appropriate to break confidentiality?
  • Mandated reporters
  • -if concerned about an unsafe situation please
report to senior checker or Esther

16
  • Questions Or Comments

17
Evaluation Forms
18
  • Customer Survey
  • Pre-Questionnaire
  • Post-Questionnaire
  • Follow up Questionnaire

19
Why Evaluate?
  • Create the best possible program
  • Learn from mistakes
  • Make modifications as needed
  • Monitor progress towards goals
  • Measure the program's ultimate outcome
  • Demonstrate the programs worth to program
    partners, sponsors, and the community

20
How are the evaluations going to work?
  • Inspection station will now begin taking
appointments at 345 so that care givers can
begin filling out paperwork prior to techs
    arriving
  • Appointments times will also be adjusted to allow
for the evaluation forms to be completed
  • During duration of appointment care givers will
    fill out all forms

21
  • How about an example?

22
An Example of a Typical Appointment Would be
  • Esther/Senior checker will give care giver
  • - customer survey
  • - pre-questionnaire
  • - check sheet
  • These need to be filled out before tech starts
    the education/installation process
  • Please keep all forms with care giver while they
    are at inspection station

23
  • After the 3 forms are filled out tech will do the
normal education and then help the parents with
    the installation of the seat
  • PLEASE REMEMBER, we want parents to be able to
    install the seat themselves!!!!!!!!
  • The last thing we want a parent to say is I am
never going to take this seat out
  • When senior checker, checks seat he/she will hand
care giver a Post-Questionnaire to fill out

24
  • Please hand all completed forms to Esther or
senior checker, as we dont want the filing of
all this additional paperwork to take time away
    from care givers
  • Questions?

25
