Each SQS school selected an academic area that
needed improvement and used the PDSA Cycle to
improve student achievement.

Standard Academic English Class
In 2004, only 20 of students were placed into
the College Standard Academic English class. In
2005, 70 were placed into the College Standard
Academic English Class (versus remedial English
Class).
5Annunciation SchoolAlbuquerque
Kindergarten Students Mastery of Diagnostic
Vocabulary
Good
In September 2004, only 8 of students mastered
diagnostic vocabulary. In March 2005, 92
mastered diagnostic vocabulary. There was an 84
increase in six months.
6LBJ Middle SchoolAlbuquerque
7th Grade Students Retains Science Terms
Good
In November 2004, only 21 of the students
retained science terms. In April 2005, 89 of
the students retained science terms. There was a
68 increase in five months.
7McCollum Elementary SchoolAlbuquerque
Students at 3rd Grade Writing Level
Good
In November 2004, only 22 of students were at
3rd grade writing level. In March 2005, 89 were
at 3rd grade writing level. There was a 67
increase in four months.
8Painted Sky Elementary SchoolAlbuquerque
of Kindergarten Students Able to Write Dominant
Sounds Improves
Good
In November 2004, only 10 of the students were
writing dominant sounds. In April 2005, 95 were
writing dominant sounds. There was an 85
improvement in five months.
9St. Marys SchoolAlbuquerque
of Pre-Kindergarten Students Knowing Alphabet
Letters Improves
Good
In September 2004, only 10 of students were able
to recognize the letters of the alphabet. In
April 2005, 75 of students recognized the
letters of the alphabet. There was a 65
improvement in seven months.
