VAAP Important Reminders
  • Students must meet the VAAP participation
    criteria. Decision must be made by the IEP team
    and documented in the IEP.
  • Students must have a significant cognitive
    disability as defined by IQ, adaptive behavior,
    and learner characteristics.
  • Students must be in grades 3 8 or grade 11.

VAAP Important Reminders
  • Students must submit evidence in Reading,
    Mathematics, and Science. Science evidence is
    required in grades 3, 5, 8 and 11.
  • Students can not participate in VAAP and the VGLA
    during the same administration.

    submitted
  • Note The Content Area Cover Sheet has been
    redesigned (See VAAP Implementation Manual
  • p. 87)

  • Required Documentation
  • Affidavit of Student Performance for each
    collection with signatures of all teachers and
    staff who made contributions to the collection of
    evidence.
  • The affidavit also requires the signature of the
    building administrator or designee
  • (See VAAP Implementation Manual p. 91)

  • All Evidence must
  • graded or include a statement of accuracy
    describing the students level of achievement.
  • have a completed Student Evidence Identification
    (SEI) tag.

VAAP Important Reminders
  • Evidence will not be considered in scoring if
  • work is copied from blackboard, texts, computers,
    etc.
  • work is a part of a group project and the
    contribution of the VAAP student is unclear.

  • Evidence will not be considered in scoring if
  • hand-over-hand assistance is used.
  • inappropriate sources (open-book test, homework)
    are used.

  • SEI tags are required. DIS tags are no longer
    acceptable.

VAAP Program Changes
  • Previously assessed ASOLs cannot be repeated for
    submission in the Collection of Evidence.
  • (Testing Memo 664 dated Nov. 9, 2007)

  • VAAP Audit Reports will include Condition Codes.
    Condition Codes describe violations of the
    scoring rules that result in evidence not being
    considered in scoring. All Condition Codes
    result in a score of zero being assigned to the
    affected ASOL.

  • Sources (i.e. homework, open-book, groups in
    which the contribution of the VAAP student is not
    clearly identified).

Food For Thought
  • Implement a comprehensive division training and
    technical assistance program to support teachers.
  • Involve building level administrators in the
    oversight and monitoring
  • Establish local timelines and due dates for
    alternate/alternative assessment programs
  • Give careful thought to all local policies and
    practices established in addition to VDOE
    guidance.
