2- Microsoft Word is NOT suitable for Large Scale
Format Printing - You can use
- Microsoft Power Point
- Microsoft Publisher
- or
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- For poster presentation it is recommended that
Microsoft Power Point or Publisher is used as the
preferred application for design and layout -
- The print properties settings (when you select
print and then click on the properties button)
are the same for all Microsoft applications -

- Where are the poster printers
- The poster printers are on the first floor of
the Saltire Centre - The poster printers will produce 2 different
sizes of poster - A0 and A1
- There are 2 different types of poster finish
Glossy or Matt - Glossy Finish A0 costs 30 per sheet and A1
costs 15 per sheet - Matt Finish A0 costs 16 per sheet and A1
costs 8.00 per sheet

1of the Saltire Centre
5Page Setup PublisherWhen creating a new
document select page size A4 portrait or
landscape.
6Page Setup PowerPointWhen creating a new
document select the design tab and then the
page setup button. Then select size A4 from the
Page Setup menu portrait or landscape.
7How can I print
- Immediately after you have logged on a pop up
message will appear with information relating to
the poster printers - You must read this message if you intend using
the poster printers or any other premium printing
service
8Connecting to the Printer
- Double click on the Poster Printers folder
which is located on the desktop - A list of poster printer and paper size icons
will be displayed A0 A1 Matt and Glossy
Finish types - Choose accordingly by double clicking on the
appropriate icon - You will then by connected to the printer of your
choice
9- Before sending a job to print you must
- Ensure that you have enough print credits to pay
for your job double click on the pound () sign
in the icon tray this will show your current
print balance - Poster Printing Costs for Academic Session
2008/09 are - A1 Matt Colour Poster 8
- A1 Glossy Colour Poster 15
- A0 Matt Colour Poster 16
- A0 Glossy Colour Poster 30
- Ensure you click the scale to fit page button
on the print preference box and any other options
you may require e.g. current page
number etc - Once you are satisfied you have chosen the
correct print preferences you should then click
on the printer properties box and ensure the
correct options are chosen
10Printer Properties Options 1 Select the
Paper tab 2 Check that the paper size is set
to the same as that of your original document
113 Select the Layout tab 4 Click on
Reduce/Enlarge 5 Select Output Paper Size
A0 or A1 6 Ensure Fit to page
button is selected
NOTE If you send a job to print with the source
file and Output Paper Size both set to A4 you
will not be charged as the job will spool to the
printer but then delete itself!
12- Click on the Main tab and ensure that the
r is set to Quality and not Speed. - Once you are satisfied that all the correct
options have been chosen send the job to print by
clicking the ok and print buttons
13- The printer manager will show you the
performance of the printing
The printer will not begin to print until it has
received all the data
The status information shows information about
your printing project. Deleting-Printed Your
project has been printed Deleting-Printed-Insuffi
cient balance You have not enough money into
your digital account
14- Printer Settings Points to Remember
- Paper size in the main and paper tabs should
always be the same - After checking that both sizes are the same you
should select your output paper size from the
layout tab A0 or A1 - The output paper size should always be selected
from the layout tab - Selecting the paper size in the paper tab will
result in the user being overcharged as the job
will go through as more that one page - Choosing the quality over speed option (main
tab) will activate the Microweave option which
will result in a greater quality of output - In the printer preference box you should always
choose the scale to fit paper option - Before printing a job it is advisable to use the
print preview option what you see here is what
will print
