BIRTHDAY/CELEBRATION PROGRAM
  • Collaboration between media specialist,
    volunteer chairman, and media paraprofessional
  • Over 10,000 worth of books donated to 8
    elementary schools during the last school year
  • Parents select a price range-less than 10, 15,
    or 20
  • Media specialist purchases books at Barnes
    Noble or other book stores as they are needed
  • Bookplate in every donated book with childs name
    and sometimes picture
  • Presented to student, who is the first person to
    check out book, in front of class or on
    close-circuit TV within the school

  • 3,000 is maximum grant

  • Notification in February
  • Funds available in the spring

TIME vs. BENEFITS
  • Grant writing, birthday clubs, book fairs, and
    seeking free replacements are all very labor
    intensive.
  • If your budget is less than adequate, you may
    find one you could try to get more books for your
    media center.
